3 Doors Down singer Brad Arnold announced in May 2025 that he had Stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs. He died on February 7, 2026, aged 47, the band and The Associated Press reported. The diagnosis announcement is therefore part of a past timeline, not a current health update.
What cancer did Brad Arnold have?
In a video to fans on May 7, 2025, Arnold said he had clear cell renal cell carcinoma and that it had metastasized to his lungs. The Los Angeles Times and Global News reported his announcement. Global News quoted him describing how he learned of the diagnosis: “I’ve been sick a couple of weeks ago, and then went to the hospital and got checked out and actually got the diagnosis that I have clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung,”
Arnold also said, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times: “I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.”
Did 3 Doors Down cancel its tour?
Yes. The band canceled its summer 2025 tour after Arnold disclosed his diagnosis. The Associated Press later reported that his illness forced the cancellation.

Arnold died on February 7, 2026, aged 47. The band’s official statement said he “passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.” The Associated Press also reported his death.
Arnold’s role in 3 Doors Down
Arnold was a founder, lead singer, songwriter and the band’s original drummer. The Associated Press reported that 3 Doors Down formed in Mississippi in 1995 and that Arnold wrote “Kryptonite” when he was 15. The band’s debut album, The Better Life, sold over 6 million copies, according to the Associated Press; that figure refers to the album, not Arnold’s individual sales.
