Which episode features Jennifer Love Hewitt?
Hewitt guest-starred as Jennifer Love Fefferman in season five’s “And Then There Was Shawn,” while Friedle played Eric Matthews. The episode turns the school setting into a slasher-movie parody, drawing on the conventions of films such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. During a hallway exchange, Fefferman insists she is not the killer, and she and Eric kiss against the lockers. Den of Geek’s episode history discusses the horror-comedy approach; iHeart’s report describes the scene and Friedle’s later reaction.

What did Will Friedle say about the scene?
On the podcast rewatch, Friedle said he did not remember the kiss going as far as it did and called it uncomfortable. He recalled that Hewitt’s character was trying to talk while Eric kissed her neck. As he put it, “That is the most intense makeout we have on the seven years of the show is right there in the hallway.”
Friedle also said, “It was super intense, and I’ve had people even say to me like, ‘Oh, I didn’t when I was a kid, I didn’t realize you guys were together.’” His “most intense” description is his own recollection and judgment, not an objective ranking of the show’s scenes. iHeart reported the podcast remarks.

How did Jennifer Love Hewitt remember it?
In a later interview with Fox News Digital, Hewitt spoke warmly about Friedle and the cast: “It was so fun… I adored Will. He was like the best boyfriend ever. He was so sweet. And that cast was wonderful.” About the kiss itself, she said, “We really went for it in that make out, definitely.” She also joked that she worries her daughter might see the scene and find it cringe-worthy. Fox News Digital reported her comments.

Episode writer Jeff Menell was unsure. He told Den of Geek, “I don’t think we wrote that in, I think they just wanted to do it and we let it.” That phrasing does not establish exactly how the kiss was planned or who proposed it. Director Jeff McCracken said Hewitt was game for anything. Menell also noted Hewitt’s association with horror films as a reason her guest casting suited the slasher parody; reporting that she and Friedle were dating at the time is context, not proof that their relationship alone led to the casting.

The episode’s production was more elaborate than a routine sitcom installment: its horror sequences called for rehearsals and filming across multiple days, and the creative team built comedy around the genre’s violent conventions. Den of Geek interviewed Menell and McCracken about the episode.
