Boston Blue recasts Sean Reagan, Danny Reagan’s younger son: Mika Amonsen plays the character in the spinoff, taking over from Andrew Terraciano, who portrayed Sean throughout Blue Bloods. The “son” in the headline is Danny Reagan’s son in the story, not Donnie Wahlberg’s real-life son.
Who plays Sean Reagan in Boston Blue?
Mika Amonsen plays Sean Reagan in Boston Blue. Andrew Terraciano played Sean in Blue Bloods across the original series’ 14-season run, through its finale. TV Insider reported the casting change on July 9, 2025.

Sean is Danny Reagan’s younger son. Danny is played by Donnie Wahlberg, but the father-son relationship belongs to their characters, not the actors’ real lives. CBS’s series page identifies the show as part of the Blue Bloods universe.
Why is Sean moving to Boston?
The recast accompanies a new setting and job for Sean. In Boston Blue, he relocates to Boston to begin a career as a patrolman with the Boston Police Department. Danny also takes a position with Boston PD, giving the show a reason to bring the father and son together in a new city.

CBS’s February 18, 2025 series-order announcement said Wahlberg would reprise Danny Reagan as he took a Boston PD position. Its August 25, 2025 premiere announcement named Amonsen as Sean and described Danny’s hope of reconnecting with his younger son.
How the recast fits the series timeline
Blue Bloods ran for 14 seasons and ended in 2024, according to the Associated Press. Terraciano played Sean throughout that run; Amonsen takes over in the spinoff rather than joining the original series’ cast for a new season. These are separate shows and separate casting contexts, not a change to the record of Terraciano’s portrayal.
CBS ordered Boston Blue straight to series for the 2025–2026 season in February 2025. The network later announced October 17, 2025, as its premiere date. The 14-season figure refers to Blue Bloods, not the episode or season count of Boston Blue.
