Blink Twice is worth watching if you enjoy stylish psychological thrillers that let unease build around wealth, power and control. Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut makes its private-island luxury feel increasingly unsafe, but its revenge-thriller payoff may disappoint viewers who want a more tightly resolved final act. It also deals directly with sexual violence, so it is not a light escape.
What is Blink Twice about?
Frida, a waitress, is invited to spend time on a tech billionaire’s private island. The apparent paradise soon gives way to strange events that make her question what is happening around her—and her own perception of it. The Australian Classification describes the film as a psychological thriller and lists its runtime as 102 minutes.

The island’s glossy promise is central to the setup: comfort and exclusivity make the unfolding uncertainty more unsettling. The film uses that contrast to explore who holds power, who is expected to comply, and how wealth can insulate people from consequences.
What is the film trying to say about power?
Kravitz has said that power dynamics, abuse of power and sexual violence are among the film’s themes, and that viewers should know this before seeing it. In a Washington Post interview published August 23, 2024, she discussed developing the project with writing partner E.T. Feigenbaum and connected its origins to observing women around powerful people and hearing friends describe experiences that were difficult to discuss openly.

That context helps explain the film’s focus on consent, control and memory, rather than treating the island merely as an exotic thriller setting. Its premise asks how a person can make sense of events when the people around her have more money, influence and control over the situation.
Where does the thriller work—and where does it falter?
The film’s strongest asset is its uneasy atmosphere: the island’s beauty and luxury sit alongside a growing sense that safety is an illusion. Its central idea gives the suspense a pointed social dimension, making the audience consider how class and gender shape who gets believed and who is protected.

The payoff is less assured. In The Atlantic’s review, the critic argues that the late violence feels rushed and that the screenplay carries too many subplots. That is a critical assessment, not a consensus or an objective measure, but it captures a likely frustration: viewers drawn in by the carefully built tension may find the final stretch less controlled than the setup.
What content should viewers know about?
The film includes difficult material, particularly around sexual violence and bloody violence. Official classification advice can help viewers make an informed choice; the wording and age classifications apply to their own jurisdictions, not as universal guidance.

- Australia: The Australian Classification record, dated August 2, 2024, flags manipulation, memory loss, consent, power and control, sexual assault, revenge, blood and injury, and crude humor. Its content description also refers to sexual violence, bloody violence and drug-affected behavior.
- United Kingdom: The BBFC home-entertainment record, dated September 6, 2024, warns of sexual violence, strong bloody violence, threat, language and drug misuse, and notes a reference to suicide.
Who is likely to enjoy Blink Twice?
It is a better fit for viewers who want an atmospheric, visually polished thriller with a clear interest in class, gender and the misuse of power—and who are comfortable with disturbing subject matter. Those looking for an especially even plot or a fully satisfying revenge-thriller resolution may come away less impressed. The film’s central tension is more compelling than the consistency of its final act.
