Spoilers for Blink Twice. Frida does not kill Slater King at the end. After escaping his island, she takes control of his company, marries him and keeps him under the influence of the memory-erasing flower used to conceal the abuse there. Director Zoë Kravitz frames the twist as a transfer of power—and a continuation of the cycle, not an uncomplicated happy ending.

What happens at the end of Blink Twice?

The island’s memory gaps are deliberate. Slater and the men around him use the fictional flower desideria, including in perfume and food, to make the women forget sexual assaults. The Atlantic explains that snake venom counteracts the flower’s amnesiac effect. Once Frida recovers her memories, she realizes that Jess has disappeared and that she herself has been to the island before. The apparent holiday is a repeat of an earlier visit and abuse. Frida and Sarah help the other women recover their memories and fight back. In the later gala scene, Frida is revealed to be the CEO of King Tech and Slater’s wife. Rather than killing him, she gives him the same memory-erasing substance through his vape, leaving him impaired. The power balance has changed, but the mechanism of control remains. (Glamour UK)

Why does Frida marry Slater?

Kravitz’s own description points away from romance as the explanation. “Frida doesn’t want Slater King, she wants to be Slater King,” she told Vanity Fair. Frida’s marriage and corporate position put her inside the world that once made her vulnerable. She has gained authority and security, but she does so by taking Slater’s place and using the same substance to control him.

Kravitz said the ending in which Frida takes over—and the cycle continues with her in Slater’s position—was always the intended ending. She also recalled that an earlier draft killed Slater, but Channing Tatum argued, “Slater can’t die. It’s too easy.” (Vanity Fair)

Is Frida happy at the end?

The film leaves that unresolved, and Kravitz does not supply a single emotional verdict. Asked whether Frida is successful, she answered, “How do you define success? And was it worth it? I don’t think there’s a right answer.” She described being glad Frida might have a comfortable life while also being “mortified at what she had to do to get there.” (Vanity Fair)

Kravitz similarly resisted pinning down Frida’s expression in the final scene: “Is she happy? Is she angry? Is she like, ‘Fuck, yeah!’ Is she sad? It’s all these things at once and it’s so stoic and interesting. I don’t think there’s a right answer.” The image can suggest triumph, anger, grief or some combination; the film does not settle which one dominates.

Is the ending revenge or a repetition of Slater’s abuse?

It can be read as both. Frida survives and takes power from the man who abused her, but her control over Slater depends on reproducing the same coercive system. Kravitz described the film as exploring “power dynamics, the abuse of power, sexual violence,” in an interview with The Washington Post. She has also said she hopes art prompts viewers to debate their own experiences and feelings. That leaves the audience with a deliberate tension: Frida’s reversal is real, but whether it frees her or makes her the next person perpetuating the cycle remains open.
