Blink Films’ one-hour archaeology documentary Ghost Ship Mystery has secured reported pre-sales to PBS/NOVA in the United States, ARTE in France and Germany, and SBS in Australia. PBS Distribution is handling international sales, while the reported broadcast plans point to 2027.
Where Ghost Ship Mystery will be shown
The reported deals cover three broadcaster partners and territories:
| Broadcaster or partner | Territory and role |
|---|---|
| PBS/NOVA | United States; reported broadcaster pre-sale. |
| ARTE | France and Germany; reported broadcaster pre-sale. |
| SBS | Australia; reported pre-buy. |
PBS Distribution has a separate role as the film’s global distributor, presenting it to international buyers. Its distribution role should not be confused with the broadcaster pre-sales: the announced partners are not a complete list of territories where the documentary may eventually be sold. C21Media and Televisual report the broadcaster arrangements and distribution role.
What the documentary investigates
The film follows an international team of archaeologists in Ukraine investigating a ship graveyard revealed after the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed and the reservoir drained. Its historical thread concerns a Russian military flotilla dispatched in 1737 to capture a warm-water port in what is now southern Ukraine. C21Media’s account says plague thwarted the expedition; that is the historical narrative described in coverage of the documentary, rather than a finding independently established here. C21Media and Televisual describe the site and the film’s subject.

In Televisual’s report, NOVA co-executive producer Chris Schmidt described the strand’s archaeology films as “detective stories” in which scientists uncover clues about the past. Blink Films creative director and joint executive producer Dan Chambers promoted the documentary’s combination of discoveries, forensic analysis, and experiments, alongside the dangers of filming amid the war in Ukraine. These are the producers’ descriptions of the film, not independent verification of its findings or filming conditions. Televisual carries both statements.
