Lively, a star and producer of the 2024 film It Ends With Us, alleged that she was sexually harassed during production. What the court decided
In April 2026, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Lively’s sexual-harassment claims and most of her other claims. According to reporting, the federal harassment claims failed in part because Lively was treated as an independent contractor rather than an employee under the relevant legal framework. Three claims, including retaliation-related claims, remained at that point. [c001]
The ruling addressed whether the claims could proceed under the applicable legal standards; it was not a trial finding that the alleged harassment or retaliation did—or did not—happen. Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios had separately sued Lively and others over defamation and related allegations. The judge dismissed Baldoni’s claims in 2025. [c002] [c004]

Did Lively and Baldoni settle?
Yes. They announced a settlement in May 2026, about two weeks before a scheduled trial. Their joint statement said Lively’s concerns “deserved to be heard” and that they “remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments.” Those words came from the parties’ joint statement, not from either person individually. The cited report did not disclose the settlement’s financial terms. A settlement is not a verdict on the truth of the allegations. [c002]
What the later attorneys’ fee award covered
On August 26, 2026, Judge Liman awarded Lively just over $400,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs after she sought roughly $8 million. The award was limited to expenses associated with defending against Baldoni’s dismissed defamation claims. It was not damages for harassment or retaliation. [c004]

Background on It Ends With Us
The film was released in August 2024 and adapted from Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel. The Associated Press reported that the film opened with $50 million; that figure is AP’s reported figure, not a separately verified box-office accounting. [c003]
