Its masks are designed to replace conditioner, but independent editorial feedback is mixed: Allure reviewers reported softer or silkier hair in some cases, while a fragrance-sensitive tester found the scent overwhelming and the feel less detangling than a comparator. The brand’s routine is easy to understand; whether its scent and finish suit you is more personal.
What is Blake Brown?
Blake Brown is a haircare brand founded by Blake Lively and developed with Give Back Beauty. The brand says the line took seven years to develop. It launched in 2024 with eight products and an initial price range of $18.99 to $24.99, according to its launch announcement. That launch information is historical, not a guide to current assortment or pricing.
The core idea is hair cycling: alternate a nourishing wash-and-mask routine with a strengthening wash-and-mask routine. The collection has since extended beyond shampoo and masks to include styling products, hair and body mists, and sets.
How does the hair-cycling routine work?
Nourishing routine
The Fundamental Nourishing Shampoo and Fundamental Nourishing Mask are the pair for the brand’s nourishing side of the routine. The official about page presents the system as an everyday wash routine intended to strengthen and nourish hair.

- Fragrance Heart Notes: Violet, Lily of the Valley
- Fragrance Base Notes: Cedarwood, Tonka
Strengthening routine
The Fundamental Strengthening Shampoo and Fundamental Strengthening Mask make up the strengthening pair. The brand’s approach is to alternate these products with the nourishing pair rather than rely on one fixed wash combination. The sources do not establish a universally best schedule or demonstrate that the cycling method outperforms other routines.
Can the masks replace conditioner?
Yes, that is the brand’s intended use: its masks are positioned as conditioner substitutes. For the Fundamental Nourishing Mask, Allure’s 2026 review directs users to apply it after shampoo from mid-lengths to ends, leave it on for the brand-recommended two to five minutes, then rinse. Allure editors reported their most consistent shiny results when using it weekly; that is the publication’s observation, not a guaranteed result for every user. The brand also says its masks can be used for 30 seconds or left on for as long as the shower allows.

What do independent reviewers say about the products?
Allure’s launch coverage included editor testing and expert commentary, but the observations were individual and limited in number rather than a controlled comparison across hair types.
- One tester described hair as silkier after using a strengthening mask.
- A reviewer said the Rich Reset Pre-Shampoo Mask softened rough hair, but left it less silky than Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.
- A fragrance-sensitive tester found the scent overwhelming and the product less slippery and detangling than that comparator.
Allure’s later review of the Fundamental Nourishing Mask adds a separate, product-specific impression: editors said they found their most consistent shiny results with weekly use. These reports are useful signals about possible feel and finish, not promises of results for every person or hair type.

How strong is the fragrance?
Fragrance is a defining part of the product experience and an important reason to consider the range carefully. Allure described the scent as strong enough to fill a room, and one fragrance-sensitive tester found it overwhelming. If you prefer lightly scented or fragrance-free haircare, that may be a more decisive factor than the alternating routine itself.

Blake Brown says its products are vegan and cruelty-free and formulated without SLS/SLES, silicones, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, or mineral oil; these are the brand’s claims, listed in its FAQ. “Clean” is not a single regulated or universally agreed product standard, as Allure notes.

There is also a useful ingredient nuance: Allure reports that a Blake Brown shampoo contains a sulfonate as its second ingredient. An expert cited by the publication says it performs a sulfate-like cleansing role despite having a different chemical structure. So the brand’s stated exclusion of SLS/SLES does not mean every cleanser in the formulas works unlike a sulfate-type cleanser. Readers who avoid particular ingredients should check the ingredient list for the exact product they plan to buy.
Where can you buy Blake Brown?
The July 2024 launch announcement named Target as the initial retail launch partner. The brand FAQ says customers can check Target for possible stock, but local availability was not verified in the available information. For current options, check the brand’s catalog and Target directly; neither an old launch announcement nor a product listing guarantees that a particular item is in stock at a nearby store.
Quick Recap
Who is Blake Brown for?
- Consider it if: you like the idea of alternating nourishing and strengthening wash routines, want masks in place of conditioner, and enjoy noticeably scented products.
- Think twice if: strong fragrance is a problem for you, you need a very slippery or detangling mask feel, or you are looking for independently established comparative results across hair types.
- Choose the product by role: use the two Fundamental pairs as the core cycling options, the Rich Reset as a pre-shampoo treatment, and the mousse or dry shampoo for styling needs. The available reviews do not establish that one routine is best for everyone.
