Spoilers for Black Widow (2021). In the released film’s post-credits scene, Yelena Belova visits Natasha Romanoff’s grave in Ohio. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine interrupts and gives Yelena a photograph of Clint Barton, presenting him as responsible for Natasha’s death. The scene points directly toward Hawkeye—but the alleged pre-release leak itself cannot be authenticated from the available record.
What happens in the Black Widow post-credits scene?
Most of Black Widow takes place in 2016, between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The end-credits sequence jumps to 2023, after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Yelena stands at Natasha’s grave in Ohio, quietly mourning her sister.
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine arrives and breaks the moment by showing Yelena a photograph of Clint Barton. She frames Clint as the person responsible for Natasha’s death and offers him as Yelena’s next target. That is Valentina’s claim and pitch to Yelena; the scene does not establish it as an objective account of what happened or show what Yelena will choose to do.
Did the Black Widow plot leak reveal the scene?
A Reddit search result titled “Black Widow Leak” suggests that a leak discussion mentioned the post-credits scene. The thread itself could not be opened, so its original date, author, full wording, and surrounding context are unverified. There is not enough evidence to say exactly what the alleged post predicted or that it “got everything right.”

The released scene can be described from contemporaneous coverage, but that does not authenticate the earlier leak. In particular, claims about whether the leak named Yelena, showed Valentina, identified Clint, or described the final edit require a reliable copy of the original post.
How the scene sets up Hawkeye
Valentina’s offer gives Yelena a path into Hawkeye: Clint is the target she is pointed toward, creating a direct story connection between the film and the series. The scene supplies that hook, not a full account of Valentina’s plan or a resolution of Yelena’s decision.

TIME’s explanation of the end-credits scene identifies the connection to Hawkeye. The sequence also shifts the film from Yelena’s private grief to the next conflict Valentina wants to set in motion.
Why Valentina interrupts Yelena’s mourning
Black Widow writer Eric Pearson said he wanted Valentina’s pragmatic arrival to cut across the seriousness of Yelena’s visit. “I want to take a serious moment and then flush it down the toilet,” he told ComicBook.com, describing the tonal interruption rather than Yelena’s grief itself.

Pearson also said Marvel did not tell him why Clint was selected as Yelena’s target. That leaves the rationale for Valentina’s choice outside the explanation the scene gives: viewers see the accusation and recruitment attempt, not the full reasoning behind them. GameSpot’s interview summary reports Pearson’s account.

Director Cate Shortland said the filmmakers discussed having someone respond to Yelena’s whistle at Natasha’s grave, but did not include that beat. Shortland’s reported comment was: “We never put it in. But we talked about it.” ComicBook.com’s report explains that a response might have suggested Natasha was still alive. In the released scene, no one answers the whistle, so that implication is not part of the finished ending.
