Black Myth: Zhong Kui was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025. Game Science describes it as the second game in the Black Myth series: a single-player action RPG inspired by the Chinese folk figure Zhong Kui. The game remains in development, and the studio has not announced a release date or final platform list.
What Game Science announced
Game Science revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui with a teaser trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025. The studio called it the second entry in the Black Myth series and said it was early in development; no in-game footage was available at the time. What kind of game is it?
Game Science describes the project as a single-player action role-playing game rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore. Its primary creative inspiration is Zhong Kui, a figure from Chinese folk tradition. The developer’s official game page provides the current description.
When will Black Myth: Zhong Kui be released?
There is no firm release date or release window announced. Asked about timing in its official FAQ, Game Science says: “As soon as we can! But first, the game has to be good enough to impress even our seasoned, seen-it-all colleagues.” The answer offers no target date; it frames release timing around the game’s development. Which platforms are confirmed?
The official target is PC and major consoles, but Game Science says final platform details will be confirmed before release. “Major consoles” is not a definitive list, so the announcement does not establish which specific console models will receive the game or whether all platforms will launch at the same time. Check the studio’s official page for any final platform announcement.

The developer’s official page lists a 15-minute gameplay trailer dated August 20, 2026. Game Science cautions that promotional footage released this early may differ from the final game and that some material the team is exploring remains experimental. Treat the footage as a look at work in progress, not a guarantee that every shown element will appear in the released game. The trailer and caveat are on the official game page.
