According to ET, he asked Irwin’s mother, Terri, whether he could keep in touch with Bindi. This account comes from secondary timeline reporting rather than a primary interview transcript.
When did they start dating?
ET reports that Irwin and Powell began dating in 2015, about two years after their reported first meeting. In a July 2016 interview, Irwin said marriage and engagement were not priorities for her at that time and that she was happy in the relationship. That comment described her outlook then, not her later plans.
When did Chandler Powell propose?
Powell proposed on July 24, 2019, Irwin’s 21st birthday, according to ET’s timeline. In a separate interview excerpt released by Paramount Press Express shortly afterward, Irwin said, “I think that for me, it’ll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle,” referring to her brother. She also spoke about honoring her family and her father, Steve Irwin.

Discovery reported that Irwin said “Grace” honored her great-grandmother and relatives in Powell’s family, while “Warrior Irwin” honored her father, Steve Irwin, and his legacy. ABC News also reported the birth and anniversary coincidence.
