The concert ended the monthly residency. It does not, by itself, establish whether Joel will ever perform at Madison Square Garden again.
Why was it called both the 104th and 150th show?
The numbers count different things, rather than contradicting one another.

The 100th-show milestone is a third, separate figure: it refers to the franchise’s 100th consecutive performance, not Joel’s 100th appearance at the Garden.
How the residency reached its finale
- December 14, 1978: Joel performed at Madison Square Garden for the first time.
- December 2013: MSG named him its first-ever music franchise.
- January 2014: The monthly franchise residency began.
- March 28, 2024: Joel performed the show later documented as the franchise’s 100th consecutive performance.
- July 25, 2024: The finale took place, counted by MSG as the franchise’s 104th consecutive show and Joel’s 150th lifetime Garden performance.
When the residency began, Joel said he had agreed to play monthly “as long as the demand continues.” In the MSG event listing, he later described the decade-long run as a testament to his fans and said 1.6 million people had already been part of it. That quoted figure is distinct from MSG’s later report of more than 1.9 million tickets sold by the finale announcement.

What MSG reported about the audience and finale plans
In its 2024 announcement, Madison Square Garden Entertainment said more than 1.9 million tickets had been sold to fans from all 50 states and more than 120 countries. This is the venue company’s reported ticket figure, not an independently audited attendance total. MSG Entertainment’s announcement also described a planned memorabilia exhibit and a time-limited “Billy Joel 150” merchandise pop-up for the finale.
Those were plans for the July 2024 event; the announcement does not establish that the merchandise is available now.

The residency’s ending was announced in November 2023 as the conclusion of a ten-year run; it should not be recast as a response to later health news. In a May 23, 2025 report, the Associated Press said Joel canceled planned concerts after a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus and that his team reported he had been advised not to perform during recovery. The report quoted the team saying the condition had been exacerbated by recent concert performances, affecting his hearing, vision and balance. Associated Press report, May 23, 2025. That later report does not establish his current health or future performance plans.
