Beyoncé won Best Country Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, for COWBOY CARTER. “I’m still in shock. Thank you so much for this honor,” she said while accepting the award, according to the Associated Press. The Recording Academy said she was the first Black woman to win the category.
What Beyoncé said when she won
After Taylor Swift presented the award, Beyoncé expressed surprise in her acceptance remarks. The Associated Press reported her words as: “I’m still in shock. Thank you so much for this honor.” The Recording Academy’s account also quoted her saying, “Wow, I really was not expecting this.”
She spoke about the way genre can shape how artists are received, saying, “I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a code word to keep us in our place as artists.” She also encouraged people to pursue what they are passionate about and stay persistent, according to the Academy’s account of the acceptance speech.
