Beyoncé revealed on March 12, 2024, that her second act would be titled Cowboy Carter. The album arrived worldwide on March 29, 2024, following the February release of its lead singles, “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” and “16 CARRIAGES.”
What is Beyoncé’s Act II album called?
The title is Act II: Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé announced it through her website on March 12, 2024, after an earlier teaser identified the project as “act ii.” The Associated Press reported the title announcement and the planned release date: AP coverage of the announcement.
When did Cowboy Carter come out?
The album was released worldwide on March 29, 2024, according to its label, Columbia Records/Sony Music Canada. Its two lead singles, “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” and “16 CARRIAGES,” had been released on February 11, 2024. The label’s release notice records those dates and describes the album: Sony Music Canada’s release notice.
How Beyoncé framed the album
Beyoncé said the project had been more than five years in the making. She traced its origins to an earlier experience in which she did not feel welcomed, which prompted her to study country music’s history. She also described Cowboy Carter as a continuation of Renaissance, while emphasizing that it should not be reduced to a single genre. In a statement reproduced by Pitchfork on March 19, 2024, she said: “This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.” Pitchfork’s report on her statement.
