In a January 20, 2025, interview with CBS News, Bethenny Frankel described BStrong’s response to the Southern California wildfires as a partnership with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), providing supplies, crisis kits and cash cards of up to $1,500 to affected people. She also spoke about sudden displacement, wealth and the public framing of the disaster. Those details describe the response as reported at the time, not a currently available aid program.
What BStrong was doing during the January 2025 fires
CBS News reported that BStrong worked with Global Empowerment Mission on disaster response, supplying crisis kits and assisting local communities and organizations as some residents began returning home. The report said cash cards of up to $1,500 were offered to affected people for immediate needs. That was the amount CBS reported in its January 20, 2025, coverage; it does not establish that the cards, their eligibility rules or the program remain available.
In a February 17, 2025, press release, GEM and BStrong said their Los Angeles wildfire response began January 9 and that relief work continued. The release also claimed more than $9 million in relief. That is an organizational figure, not an independently audited total established by the reporting cited here, and its accounting scope is not specified.
Frankel’s comments on trauma, wealth and celebrity
Frankel described the speed with which people’s lives changed: “People are traumatized,” she told CBS. “They’ve gone from house proud to homeless in an instant.” The remark captures her account of the upheaval; it is not a clinical assessment of every survivor.

She also said the fires had affected people across economic classes: “This has affected the rich and the poor equally, which I don’t often see at the same time.” She argued that celebrity and wealth shaped how the crisis was discussed in public, saying, “There’s a lot of class warfare resentment, because it’s become a very public, celebrity, wealthy person’s crisis in the media.” These are Frankel’s interpretations, not findings from a survey or a measure of how all victims experienced the coverage.
On the longer recovery, she told CBS: “We rebuild homes. We will be there for years,” and added, “We are the first to get there and the last to leave.” These were her statements about the effort and its intended duration in the January interview; the interview alone does not verify a subsequent timeline or current program status.

Why she warned donors against sending unwanted goods
Frankel urged people not to assume that survivors need whatever donors have on hand. “Do not bring your old clothes,” she said. “People cannot impose what they think others want. Cases of water end up in landfills, piles of clothes … it’s not helping … we know what people need.” Her warning was about unsolicited or unsuitable donations, not a claim that every in-kind donation is unwanted.
For anyone considering giving goods after a disaster, the practical takeaway is to check the receiving relief organization’s current needs list and delivery instructions first. Needs change, and organizations may not be able to accept items that are not requested or cannot be distributed.

What the reports establish—and what they do not
The CBS interview is a snapshot of BStrong’s reported activity and Frankel’s views on January 20, 2025. ABC News also listed a January 19 segment in which she discussed aid needs in California and North Carolina as disaster survivors rebuilt. An iHeart episode published January 16, “Just B Rant: B Strong for California Fire Victims,” covered the response as well, but its transcript is auto-generated and not guaranteed accurate; CBS is the source for the exact quotations above.
CBS’s January 20 report also gave historical figures of at least 27 deaths and more than 100,000 evacuations. They are figures reported at that date, not current totals, and are not independently validated here against government records. Taken together, these sources document an early response and a public conversation about recovery; they do not establish a present-day donation channel, current eligibility or an independently verified cumulative impact total.
