Bethany Joy Lenz remembered Paul Teal as someone who could “light up a room without trying” after the One Tree Hill actor died on November 15, 2024, at age 35. Their connection went beyond the series: they had worked together on a 2006 production of The Notebook, and Lenz later directed the episode in which Teal appeared as Josh Avery.
What Bethany Joy Lenz said about Paul Teal
In an Instagram tribute quoted by the Los Angeles Times, Lenz described Teal as “the kind of guy who could light up a room without trying.” The tribute focused on the warmth she remembered in him, rather than only on his work as an actor.
How Lenz and Teal knew each other
Lenz and Teal first worked together in 2006 on a musical production of The Notebook, according to the Los Angeles Times and Us Weekly. Their professional connection continued on One Tree Hill: Lenz directed an episode and cast Teal in it.
Paul Teal’s role on One Tree Hill
Teal played Josh Avery, a closeted actor, in a seven-episode arc during season seven. His role behind the scenes as well as on screen gave Lenz a direct part in bringing his character to the series.
