Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For most creators looping prerecorded videos stored on a computer, OBS Studio is the best place to start. It is a free, verified YouTube encoder, and its Media Source can repeat one video while its VLC Video source can repeat a playlist. If you need the stream to continue with your computer off, a cloud service is a better fit; YouTube’s encoder directory describes both cloud-based 24/7 streaming and dedicated hardware options.
Which option fits your stream?
| Option | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | Creators who can keep a computer powered on and connected | Free, verified encoder; loop one local file or a VLC playlist. You control playback and monitor the broadcast from the computer. |
| StreamNeo | Creators who want a YouTube stream to run without keeping a computer online | Cloud playback of uploaded videos and playlists, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the first day is free. |
| Gyre | Creators seeking a cloud-hosted 24/7 prerecorded stream | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool. Pricing and plan details are not established here. |
| AJA HELO Plus | Creators who want dedicated hardware rather than a computer | YouTube describes it as supporting scheduled prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Pricing and operating details are not established here. |
For the standard single-computer setup, choose OBS Studio. The steps below cover a single looping video and a playlist. If uninterrupted operation without a local machine matters more than direct playback control, consider a cloud option instead.
Set up a looping YouTube Live stream in OBS
- Enable live streaming on your channel. In YouTube Studio, follow the live-stream setup flow. First-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this before the time you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if offered, and connect or enter the stream key. If configuring a custom server connection, use the YouTube server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. Keep the stream key private.
- Build a scene and add your video. In the OBS Sources panel, add a Media Source for a single file. Select the file and enable Loop. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source, add the media items, and leave Loop Playlist enabled if the list should repeat in order. Shuffle Playlist is a separate setting and defaults off. OBS documents these options in its Media Sources guide.
- Install VLC if you use the VLC source. The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well.
- Check the scene and start the encoder. Preview the scene in OBS and confirm the intended video is visible and playing. Start streaming from OBS, then use the YouTube Live Control Room to monitor and manage the broadcast. For a scheduled stream, connecting the encoder is not the only step: use the Live Control Room to start the broadcast.
YouTube’s basic model is that an encoder “converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” OBS handles that encoding locally; the source setting determines whether the media repeats.
Protect the stream’s rights and monetization eligibility
Confirm rights to the video and audio
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. You need the rights required to use the live content, including applicable music rights. If you have licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that, a licensed stream may still be interrupted. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A loop is not a monetization shortcut
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Monetized content is expected to be original and authentic; repetitive, mass-produced, generic, or low-value content can be ineligible. A video being technically live—or playing continuously—does not by itself make it eligible for monetization. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies and assess the content itself, not just the streaming method.
Plan for archives and long broadcasts
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a recording matters, save a local copy rather than relying on YouTube’s archive. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You cannot go live yet: If this is your channel’s first live broadcast, activation may take up to 24 hours after you enable live streaming. Finish setup early and check YouTube Studio again after activation.
- The YouTube broadcast does not receive OBS: Confirm that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the intended stream. Check for accidental spaces or an outdated key, and ensure the encoder is started. Keep the key private while correcting the connection.
- The stream is connected but not broadcasting: For a scheduled stream, connect the encoder and then start the broadcast in the Live Control Room. Encoder connection alone may not begin the scheduled broadcast.
- The VLC source is unavailable or will not load: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC. For a single file, OBS Media Source is the simpler alternative and does not require the VLC playlist source.
- The playlist stops instead of repeating: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source. If the order is unexpected, check Shuffle Playlist, which is separate and defaults off.
- The stream is interrupted after playback starts: A copyright match can replace, interrupt, or terminate a live stream. Verify rights to both video and audio; if third-party material is licensed, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps uploaded videos looping, so nothing has to stay powered on or connected at home. Every slot streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video on YouTube, not camera-based broadcasts. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
