The best screen recorder for a product demo depends on what you need to deliver: choose Loom for a quick screen-and-camera recording you can share as a link, Screen Studio for polished Mac demos, OBS Studio for free, highly configurable capture, or Camtasia Online for browser-based recording without a watermark. The key choice is the workflow—not a universal winner.

Choose by platform and workflow

Tool Best fit Platforms and output Main trade-off
Loom Quick narrated demos with light editing and link sharing. Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android; recordings are uploaded to Loom for sharing. Its Starter plan supports up to 720p. Starter currently limits each person to 25 recordings and each video to five minutes. Paid plans list unlimited recording duration and up to 4K.
Screen Studio Polished product walkthroughs made on a Mac. macOS only; exports MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps, plus shareable links. Requires a Mac; the vendor recommends macOS 13.1 or later. Its automatic visual treatments may be more than a simple capture needs.
OBS Studio Free recording with detailed control over sources, scenes, and audio. Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, and Linux; records to disk and can also stream. Flexible production controls mean more setup than a tool designed around quick demo editing. That is a workflow inference from its feature set, not a usability test.
Camtasia Online Browser capture with an option to continue editing in Camtasia Editor. Browser-based screen, camera, and microphone capture, editing, and sharing. The available product information does not establish desktop-editor pricing, system requirements, or exact export limits.

These descriptions reflect vendor-published product and plan information, not hands-on testing or a security audit. Confirm current features, prices, and device requirements before committing.

Which recorder should you use?

Choose Loom for a fast, shareable walkthrough

Loom is a practical fit when you want to record your screen and camera, make light edits, and send a link rather than manage a local video file. Its product page explicitly includes product demos among its use cases. The current pricing page lists Starter limits of 25 recordings per person, five minutes per recording, and video quality up to 720p; paid plans list unlimited recording duration and up to 4K. Check Loom’s pricing page for the plan terms in effect when you sign up.

Loom lists Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android support. Its link-first workflow is convenient for sharing, but recordings are uploaded to Loom’s service; consider that before capturing confidential screens or customer information. This is a practical privacy consideration, not an independent security assessment.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose Screen Studio for a polished Mac demo

Screen Studio is the strongest fit in this group when you use a Mac and want the recording to feel composed without manually animating every detail. The vendor describes automatic zooms around clicks, cursor smoothing and click effects, screen-and-camera layouts, captions, transcript edits, and 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 layouts. It lists MP4 export up to 4K at 60 fps and recommends macOS 13.1 or later; it also says Windows support is not planned for the near future. These are vendor claims, not results from comparative testing. See Screen Studio for current compatibility and plan details.

Screen Studio lists $9/month with yearly billing or $29/month with monthly billing, with all features in both plans. The vendor says one-time purchases are no longer offered to new buyers. Verify the current price and billing terms on its site before purchasing.

Choose OBS Studio for free capture control

OBS Studio is free and open source. It supports multiple capture sources, unlimited scenes, audio filters, hotkeys, transitions, and plugins, making it useful when you want to build a repeatable recording setup or combine several sources. It is available for Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, and Linux according to the OBS Project.

Anker USB-C Hub, 5-in-1 USB Hub for Laptops, 4K HDMI Multiport Adapter
  • 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
  • Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
  • 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

OBS is a production and capture tool rather than an out-of-the-box demo editor: plan to configure scenes and sources, then use another editor if you need a more guided polishing workflow. That distinction is an inference from the listed capabilities, not a tested usability finding. The OBS homepage showed release 32.2.2 dated August 14, but did not state the year; check the download page for the current release rather than relying on that version detail.

Choose Camtasia Online for browser-first recording

TechSmith presents Camtasia Online as free browser recording without a watermark, with screen, camera, and microphone capture plus browser editing and sharing. It also offers an integration into Camtasia Editor for more extensive editing. The available details are not enough to establish the desktop editor’s price, system requirements, or exact export limits, so check those separately if you expect to move from browser capture to the editor.

Plan the demo before you press record

Decide what the viewer needs to see

  • Write down the one task or product benefit the demo must make clear. Remove steps that do not help prove or explain it.
  • Prepare the application state in advance: sign in, close unrelated windows, dismiss notifications, and use sample data rather than exposing real customer information.
  • Choose the final format before recording. A landscape walkthrough usually suits a desktop product; a square or vertical version may be useful when the destination calls for it. Screen Studio explicitly offers 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 layouts; for other tools, verify the available export options.
  • Decide whether the viewer needs your face. A camera view can add presentation context, but it also takes up space and can distract from a detailed interface.

Check the screen and audio

  • Set the display resolution and application zoom so interface text is readable in the finished video.
  • Record a short test and listen back for clipping, room noise, and uneven volume. Loom and Screen Studio support microphone audio; Screen Studio also describes capturing Mac system audio.
  • An external microphone is optional. It may help if narration quality matters, but no particular microphone has been tested here.
  • Turn off desktop notifications and avoid showing passwords, private messages, license keys, or personal data.

Record and finish the demo

  1. Start with the capture mode. Select the application window or display, then add the camera only if it helps the explanation. In Loom or Screen Studio, choose the screen-and-camera combination that fits; in OBS, configure the required sources in a scene; in Camtasia Online, use its browser capture controls.
  2. Make a short test recording. Confirm the correct window is captured, the cursor is visible, and narration or system audio is present at a usable level. Fix input selection or permissions before recording the full walkthrough.
  3. Record in a deliberate sequence. Introduce the task, show the relevant action, pause briefly after important changes, and end when the result is clear. Re-record a section if a mistake obscures the steps rather than leaving the viewer to infer what happened.
  4. Edit for clarity. Remove dead time and accidental detours. Use zooms, cursor emphasis, captions, or transitions only when they help the viewer follow the interface. Screen Studio describes automatic zoom and cursor treatments; Loom offers quick edits; OBS users may need a separate editor for a polished cut.
  5. Review the exported or shared result. Watch it through once at the intended size. Check legibility, audio, captions if used, and that no private information slipped into the frame. For Loom or a cloud share link, review access settings before sending; for a local export, verify the saved file plays correctly.

Cost, limits, and privacy to weigh

  • Free does not mean unlimited. OBS is free and open source. Loom Starter has the stated per-person recording and video-duration limits, while Camtasia Online says its browser recorder is free without a watermark. Screen Studio is paid, with pricing dependent on billing cadence as listed by the vendor.
  • Match the plan to the deliverable. If a demo only needs a short internal walkthrough, a Starter limit may be sufficient. Longer recordings or higher resolution may require a paid Loom plan; confirm the current plan page before relying on those features.
  • Choose local recording or cloud sharing knowingly. OBS records to disk. Loom’s link workflow uploads the recording to its service. Screen Studio supports exports and shareable links; the vendor says many functions process locally and that cloud sharing involves an explicit upload. None of these product statements should be treated as an independent security audit.
  • Consider editing time as part of cost. A free tool may still require more setup or an additional editor. Conversely, an automated polish feature only saves effort if it suits the look and pacing you want.

Common problems and fixes

The recording shows the wrong window or a blank screen

Stop and verify the selected source, display, or browser capture permission. In OBS, inspect the active scene and source visibility; in a browser recorder, allow screen sharing and select the intended tab, window, or display again. Make a brief test before restarting the full demo.

The microphone is silent or too quiet

Check that the recorder is using the intended input device and that the operating system or browser has granted microphone permission. Record a short sample and adjust the input level before proceeding. If system audio matters, confirm it is enabled separately; Screen Studio describes Mac system-audio capture, but availability in other tools depends on their settings and platform.

The interface is hard to read

Increase the application’s zoom or record at a display size that keeps important controls legible. Recheck the result at the size viewers will use; a high-resolution export cannot fix tiny interface text captured at an unsuitable scale.

A recording or export exceeds plan limits

Check the plan currently attached to your account, the recording duration, and the chosen output quality. For Loom, the Starter limits listed on its current pricing page are five minutes per video and up to 720p; paid tiers list unlimited duration and up to 4K. Plan details can change, so confirm them directly before recording a longer session.

When a product demo needs to stay live

Screen recorders make a file or a shareable recording; they are not the same as a service that continuously plays uploaded video as a YouTube live stream. If you need a prerecorded demo or playlist to keep a YouTube channel live, StreamNeo is the relevant alternative: it loops uploaded videos in the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a free first day.

To use StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer does not have to stay on, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, plus 24/7 looping, playlists, and StreamNeo team support. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Billing options are daily, weekly, monthly, six months, or yearly; UPI and cards are supported in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.

Copyright and platform rules still apply

A recorder does not grant permission to use the material you capture or include. For a demo, use software, music, images, and other assets you own or are authorized to show, and avoid exposing third-party or customer information. If you turn an uploaded demo into a YouTube live stream, check that the video and audio are cleared for that use and review YouTube’s applicable rules; continuous playback does not change your rights or the platform’s requirements.
