For a Hindi music playlist with a mostly static cover image or visualizer, start at 30 fps, set the output resolution to match your destination, and use an available hardware encoder. For a local recording, choose Advanced Output, record to MKV, and start with High Quality; move to Indistinguishable only if you can accept larger files and your computer handles the added load. Live bitrate is different: choose it only after checking your stable upload capacity and the current limits of your streaming platform.
First decide: are you recording a file or broadcasting live?
OBS uses different settings for a local recording and a live stream. A recording preset controls the quality and size of a file saved on your computer. A live bitrate must also fit your internet connection and the destination platform’s current requirements. If you need separate settings for each job, use Advanced Output mode.
The Hindi language of the playlist does not change the video settings. What does matter is the visual content, the intended resolution, the destination, the computer’s encoding capacity, and—if you are broadcasting—the rights to the specific music.
Recommended OBS settings for a local playlist recording
Choose Advanced Output and MKV
- In OBS, open Settings → Output and set Output Mode to Advanced if you need independent recording and streaming settings or audio-track selection.
- Under the recording settings, choose MKV as the recording format. MKV is a safer choice if OBS or the computer stops unexpectedly: an interrupted write is less likely to ruin the entire file.
- If an editor or upload workflow requires MP4, use File → Remux Recordings in OBS after recording. Choose a compatible fragmented MP4 or MOV workflow only when your software supports it.

Pick a quality preset for the length of the playlist
- High Quality: A practical starting point for a long playlist; it aims for high quality with medium file size.
- Indistinguishable: Choose this when preserving more detail matters more than file size and your computer can sustain the encoding workload. OBS warns that this option can produce larger files and affect older or weaker hardware.
- Lossless: Usually impractical for long recordings. OBS estimates about 7 GB per minute for this preset and notes that it uses the CPU encoder. That is an approximate OBS figure, not a prediction for every computer or recording.
These presets are not interchangeable. OBS’s Recording Encoder Presets Guide describes their quality, storage, and performance trade-offs.
Select an encoder your computer and editing workflow support
Use a modern hardware encoder if one is available and works with your target format; it can shift encoding work away from the CPU. H.264 is broadly playable. AV1 and HEVC can be more storage-efficient for local recording, but check that the editor and playback devices you need support the chosen codec. OBS’s Hardware Encoding Guide and format guide cover these trade-offs. OBS describes AV1 as preferable to HEVC and H.264 for high-quality local recording where supported; that is not a guarantee of compatibility with every platform or device.

Set resolution and frame rate for the visual and destination
Use the canvas to arrange sources and output resolution for delivery
The canvas resolution is the workspace for arranging your playlist visual, text, and other sources. Output resolution is the size of the actual recording or stream. Set output to suit the destination and the resolution of your assets; a larger output does not add detail to a small source image.
Start at 30 fps for a static visual
A cover image or simple visualizer generally does not need 60 fps, so 30 fps is a reasonable starting point when the destination supports it. Match the common FPS setting to the intended output. Higher frame rates can demand more from the encoder and computer. OBS’s general overview explains the relationship between output, frame rate, and system resources.

For a live stream, determine bitrate from the connection and platform
Do not copy a bitrate example without checking its context. OBS says the appropriate video bitrate depends on both available upload speed and the streaming service’s limit. First identify the destination’s current ingest requirements, then choose a bitrate that your connection can sustain steadily, leaving room for normal network variation. The title alone does not establish a safe platform-specific bitrate.
OBS’s general overview gives around 160 kbps as typical audio streaming guidance, or lower if upload speed is limited; the destination’s requirements take priority. Its 2021 guide also used 6000 kbps as an example Twitch video bitrate maximum, not as a universal or current recommendation. Separately, OBS’s 2022 hardware-encoding guide lists 3000 kbps at 1280×720/30 fps, 6000 kbps at 1280×720/60 fps, 8000 kbps at 1920×1080/30 fps, and 16000 kbps at 1920×1080/60 fps for a specific Intel Mac recording procedure. Those figures are examples for that procedure, not general live-stream targets.

Keep audio tracks and music rights separate
Advanced Output lets you choose which audio tracks go into a recording. Separate tracks can be useful when an editing workflow needs to exclude a music track from a particular recording, but routing audio is not permission to broadcast or publish it. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every track in the playlist and follow the destination platform’s current copyright and live-stream rules. The rights for the specific Hindi songs in your playlist cannot be inferred from their language or from an OBS setting.
Common problems and fixes
- The recording is unusable after OBS or the computer stops: Record to MKV, then remux to MP4 in OBS if your next step requires MP4.
- The file is too large: Use High Quality instead of Indistinguishable or Lossless, and check whether the chosen codec is supported by your playback and editing workflow.
- The computer struggles during recording: Try an available hardware encoder, reduce output resolution or frame rate if the destination permits, and avoid Lossless for a long playlist.
- The live stream drops frames or becomes unstable: Check that the selected bitrate fits both stable upload capacity and the destination’s current limit; review resolution and frame rate as well.
- The editor cannot open the recording: Confirm codec and container compatibility. If it accepts MP4 but not MKV, remux the MKV in OBS rather than treating a renamed file as converted.
- A song is muted, blocked, or triggers a rights claim: OBS cannot clear music rights. Review the platform notice and verify permission for the exact track before attempting another broadcast.
