Before buying, check the complete mounted weight, thread size, desk-edge thickness, reach, and cable clearance. The specifications below are manufacturer-published, not results of comparative hands-on testing.
Choose a stand style that suits your setup
Desk-clamp boom arm
A clamp arm attaches to the desk edge and lets you position the microphone toward your speaking position, then move it out of the way. It is a strong fit for a seated streamer who wants to clear desk space between recordings. Measure the desk edge and check that the clamp opens far enough; also confirm the arm can reach around your monitor and keyboard without forcing an awkward position.
Weighted-base desktop stand
A weighted base sits on a flat surface instead of gripping the desk. It avoids clamp-fit questions, but the base occupies desk space and may limit how far the microphone can be positioned from it. Choose one when clamping is unsuitable or you prefer a freestanding desktop setup.
Floor-standing tripod boom
A tripod boom is worth considering if the microphone needs to stand away from the desk or the stand will also be used elsewhere. Extending a tripod boom can shift its center of gravity and increase the risk of toppling; tripod legs can also become a floor trip hazard. For a fixed seated desk setup, a clamp arm or desktop stand is usually easier to place.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check fit and compatibility before buying
- Calculate the mounted weight. Use the microphone plus shock mount, clip, and any other accessories—not the microphone alone. Compare that total with the manufacturer’s stated range or maximum load.
- Match the mounting thread. Check the microphone mount and the stand’s thread, including which adapters are included. A stand may fit only with an adapter.
- Measure desk thickness and clearance. Measure the edge where the clamp will sit, and account for nearby walls, shelves, monitors, and the arm’s movement.
- Check reach and movement. Compare the listed reach with the distance from the mounting point to your speaking position. Consider whether you need the arm to rotate or swing away.
- Plan cable routing. For an XLR microphone, verify that the cable can bend and connect without hitting the arm or adapter. Integrated channels or a specified cable-clearance feature can help, but do not assume every cable and connector will fit.
Compare these manufacturer-specified options
These models illustrate different desk setups and compatibility needs; the figures are product-page specifications, not a universal ranking. Confirm the current specification and the exact model version before ordering.
| Stand | Mounting style and reach | Load specification | Threads, desk fit, and cable details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elgato Wave Mic Arm | Desk-clamp arm; 780 mm / 30.7 in horizontal reach, 750 mm / 29.5 in vertical reach, and 360-degree rotation. | 250–1,000 g for microphone and accessories. | Clamp expands to 60 mm / 2.4 in. Compatible with 1/4-, 3/8-, and 5/8-inch microphone mounts; integrated cable channels. Elgato describes it as offering “extra reach, full adjustability, integrated cable channels and compatibility with standard mic mounts”—vendor language, not independent testing. |
| RØDE PSA1 | Desk insert and clamp with internal springs; the cited product information does not state reach. | 700 g to 1.1 kg for microphone plus shock mount or clip. | Check the thread and adapter needs against your microphone and the exact product version; the cited specification does not state desk-thickness or XLR-clearance limits. |
| Elgato Wave Desk Stand | Weighted base; 216 mm / 8.5 in horizontal reach and 411 mm / 16.2 in vertical reach. Does not clamp to the desk. | Maximum load 1 kg / 2.2 lb. | Uses a 1/4-inch thread and includes 3/8- and 5/8-inch adapters. The base needs a suitable flat area on the desk. |
| RØDE DS3 | Weighted-base desktop studio arm with a 360-degree ball head; the cited product information does not state reach. | Supports devices up to 1.5 kg. | Compatible with 3/8-, 1/4-, and 5/8-inch mounts and includes cable management. RØDE describes its movement as quiet for stream and recording adjustments; this is manufacturer language. |
| Shure by Gator SH-BROADCAST1 | Desk-clamp arm; up to 940 mm / 32.25 in extension, as listed by Shure. | Not stated in the cited product information. | For desks up to 55 mm / 2.17 in thick. Shure lists compatibility with the SM7B, SM7dB, MV7, MV7+, and MV7X using its threaded extension adapter, which provides XLR cable clearance for those named models. Microphone sold separately. |
Which stand fits common streaming microphones?
Will a boom arm fit an SM7B or MV7?
Shure names the SM7B, SM7dB, MV7, MV7+, and MV7X as compatible with its SH-BROADCAST1 through the threaded extension adapter; Shure says that adapter also provides XLR cable clearance for those models. For another arm, do not infer compatibility from the microphone name alone: check its thread, included adapters, and the supported weight of the fully mounted assembly.

What if the microphone and accessories are heavy?
Weigh the complete assembly before choosing. The Wave Mic Arm lists 250–1,000 g; the PSA1 lists 700 g to 1.1 kg for the microphone plus shock mount or clip; the Wave Desk Stand has a 1 kg maximum; and the DS3 supports devices up to 1.5 kg. These figures describe different manufacturer specifications, so compare them with care and stay within the limit that applies to your assembly.
What if I do not want a desk clamp?
Look at weighted-base designs such as the Wave Desk Stand or DS3. Compare how much desk area the base uses, whether the arm can reach your speaking position, and whether the stand supports your complete mounted load. Their shorter or unstated reach may matter if your microphone must clear a monitor or sit farther from the base.

Set up the stand for a seated stream
- Measure before mounting. Check desk-edge thickness for a clamp arm, or reserve a flat, stable area for a weighted base. Map the route from stand to speaking position and note obstacles.
- Check the microphone assembly. Confirm the microphone, mount, and accessories fit the stand’s load specification. Identify the microphone’s thread and select the correct included adapter if required.
- Secure the stand. Attach the clamp or place the base on a stable surface according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Keep the boom within its intended operating position and avoid extending a floor tripod in a way that makes it unstable.
- Position the microphone. Bring it close enough for your speaking setup while keeping the boom clear of your screen and controls. Check that the arm can move without striking nearby equipment.
- Route and test the cable. Use the stand’s cable channels or management features where available. Connect the microphone and check that the cable and plug have clearance through the arm’s full movement; avoid tight bends or tension at the connector.
- Recheck after adjustment. Move the microphone into and out of its streaming position. If the arm sags, the clamp shifts, the base becomes unstable, or the cable snags, stop and correct the setup rather than adding unsupported weight or forcing the movement.

Common problems and fixes
- The clamp will not fit the desk: Measure the edge and compare it with the clamp’s stated opening. The Wave Mic Arm lists up to 60 mm / 2.4 in; the Shure/Gator arm lists desks up to 55 mm / 2.17 in. Choose a stand suited to the measured edge, or use a weighted base if clamping is not workable.
- The arm sags or feels overloaded: Recalculate the weight including the shock mount, clip, and accessories. Compare it with the exact model’s load rating; do not assume a broadcast microphone is within range because another arm supports it.
- The microphone will not attach: Check the stand and microphone thread sizes and use the correct supplied adapter. If the combination is not listed as compatible, verify it with the manufacturer before buying another adapter.
- The cable or XLR connector hits the arm: Re-route the cable and check connector clearance through the full range of movement. The Shure/Gator adapter is specified to provide clearance for the Shure models it names; that detail does not establish clearance for every microphone or cable.
- The stand reaches the mic but blocks the screen: Reconsider the mounting point and required reach, then compare it with the arm’s listed horizontal and vertical reach. A weighted base may be easier to place, but its shorter reach can be a trade-off.
- A floor tripod feels unstable: Shorten the boom or reposition the legs so the extended arm does not pull the center of gravity beyond the stable footprint. Keep legs out of walking paths.
