Best low-cost self-managed VPS pick: DigitalOcean’s Basic Droplet listed at $12 per month is a plausible starting point for one pre-encoded 720p30 stream, with a Bangalore data-center option and 2,000 GiB of included transfer. That is a qualified recommendation, not a tested performance result: calculate bandwidth for your actual stream, include headroom and audio, and test the server and stream before relying on it. For a 1080p30 feed, compare the listed $24 per month option instead. If you would rather not administer a VPS, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist from the cloud as a 24/7 YouTube stream; it is #1 for a managed option because it stays on with your computer off, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and has a free first day.
Which VPS makes sense for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
DigitalOcean is the clearest low-cost choice in the available official plan information for this use case: its Basic Droplet listing includes a $12/month plan with 1 vCPU, 2 GiB RAM, 2,000 GiB transfer and 50 GiB SSD, and DigitalOcean identifies Bangalore as a data-center location. Its $24/month plan lists 2 vCPUs, 4 GiB RAM, 4,000 GiB transfer and 80 GiB SSD. These are listed USD prices, not verified India checkout totals; taxes, currency and final account pricing were not checked. DigitalOcean Droplet pricing and its availability matrix should be checked for current details before purchase.
This is not evidence that DigitalOcean is the cheapest VPS seller in India, or that either plan has been tested for continuous streaming. It is a starting point whose transfer allowance appears plausible for a single pre-encoded 720p30 feed. For a self-managed VPS, weigh total price and included outbound transfer against your bitrate, region and network route, CPU type, and the Linux administration and monitoring you are prepared to handle.
Check bandwidth before choosing a plan
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends different H.264 bitrates for different output settings. At 4 Mbps, a continuous 30-day video feed uses about 1.30 TB of payload; adding the 20% connection headroom YouTube recommends makes a planning figure of about 1.56 TB. At 10 Mbps, the corresponding figures are about 3.24 TB and 3.89 TB. These are calculations from the recommended bitrates, not provider measurements. The headroom figure is not extra allowance that replaces actual usage: audio, protocol overhead and retransmissions add to real transfer needs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Example stream setting | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate | 30-day video payload | With 20% planning headroom | Plan to compare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | About 1.30 TB | About 1.56 TB, before audio and overhead | DigitalOcean Basic, listed at $12/month with 2,000 GiB transfer |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | About 3.24 TB | About 3.89 TB, before audio and overhead | DigitalOcean Basic, listed at $24/month with 4,000 GiB transfer |
The $12 plan’s 2,000 GiB allowance is therefore a plausible comparison for the 4 Mbps example, not a guarantee that every 720p30 configuration fits. Likewise, 4,000 GiB is close to the 1080p30 planning estimate before audio and overhead, so check the provider’s transfer accounting and allow for your actual settings and runtime. YouTube’s bitrate guidance and its recommendation to maintain 20% upload bandwidth headroom are at YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming tips.
Understand the VPS workload
Forwarding a pre-encoded file
If a compatible video is already encoded and the VPS only forwards it as a live feed, that is a different CPU workload from encoding or transcoding video on the server. Do not assume a small shared-CPU instance is sufficient for every workflow: test your own encoder and monitor CPU, memory, transfer and YouTube stream health.

Encoding or transcoding on the VPS
Real-time encoding adds work that a basic plan’s headline CPU count alone cannot settle. DigitalOcean distinguishes shared-CPU plans from dedicated-CPU plans; its plan guidance says dedicated CPU provides guaranteed access to the full hyper-thread. If encoding performance varies or cannot be interrupted, compare dedicated CPU options and validate the workload rather than treating a small shared instance as proven sufficient. The provider specifications do not certify continuous encoder performance.
Set up a VPS stream through YouTube Live Control Room
- Enable live streaming and create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Confirm live streaming is enabled for the channel before building the unattended setup.
- Get the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into your encoder software on the VPS. Keep the key private: it gives an encoder access to the stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Choose settings for the intended output. Select codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder guidance. For the examples in this guide, the recommended H.264 bitrate is 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps; these figures are not universal settings for every codec or frame rate. Use RTMPS where supported, which YouTube recommends as its encrypted RTMP option.
- Plan the loop and the session lifecycle. Configure the VPS-side encoder or playback workflow to repeat the intended video or playlist. Decide how sessions will be started, checked and restarted, and how recordings should be retained. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a single continuous 24-hour stream will produce one complete archived VOD. Plan session lengths and archive handling around that limit.
- Check transfer and server resources against the real job. Estimate outbound use from the configured bitrate and planned runtime, then include 20% bandwidth headroom plus audio and protocol overhead. During a test, watch VPS CPU, memory and network transfer, and confirm that the YouTube feed remains healthy.
- Test before depending on it. Start the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, inspect stream health and status, and then select Go live when ready. YouTube recommends testing and checking the preview; Live Control Room provides stream-health and real-time analytics information. Keep an operational plan for monitoring and responding to errors rather than treating a VPS as set-and-forget.
For continuous broadcasts, YouTube’s archived-encoder instructions state: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and streaming tips for current workflow and network guidance.

Copyright, channel rules and the content you loop
A VPS changes where the encoder runs; it does not change the rights required for the audio or video you broadcast, or YouTube’s channel and monetization policies. Use material you created or have permission to stream, and check the relevant rights for music, footage and other included works before scheduling an unattended loop. A livestream that is technically stable can still face copyright claims, restrictions or removal. Review YouTube’s current rules for your channel and content before going live; no particular reused-content or monetization outcome can be inferred from the hosting plan.
Common problems and what to check
- Live Control Room receives no signal: check that the encoder is running, that the server URL and stream key were copied correctly, and that the key has not been replaced or exposed. Confirm the VPS can reach YouTube over the selected RTMP/RTMPS endpoint.
- Preview is unstable or stream health reports errors: verify the actual upload path and bitrate, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth margin, and check VPS network use and resource pressure. A provider’s advertised transfer allowance is monthly capacity, not proof of a stable connection.
- The stream stops before the monthly allowance is exhausted: inspect the encoder process, server logs and network connection, then use YouTube’s stream status and error details to narrow down whether the failure is at the encoder or ingest side. Build restart and alert procedures into an unattended setup.
- Transfer runs higher than the estimate: include audio, protocol overhead, retransmissions and any bitrate changes in your usage calculation. Recalculate from the bitrate actually sent, not only the target setting.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: review the session duration and archive handling. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours, not to an assumed single full-day VOD.
- CPU is saturated or output quality drops: determine whether the server is encoding/transcoding or merely forwarding an already encoded stream. Reduce workload only if the desired output remains acceptable, or test a plan with a more suitable CPU arrangement.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want to administer Linux or keep a VPS encoder operational, StreamNeo is a managed YouTube-only option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays your uploaded video rather than broadcasting a camera. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works alongside cards. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
