For a self-managed low-cost starting point, consider the AWS Lightsail Linux/Unix plan listed at $7 USD per month, with 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 40 GB SSD storage and 2 TB of transfer. That is a plausible entry configuration, not a proven fit or universal cheapest option: test the stream in your chosen region and monitor CPU, stream health and transfer before relying on it. If you would rather not administer a server, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
Which option fits an always-on meditation stream?
A cloud server runs the encoder and sends one continuous feed to YouTube Live; YouTube, not the VPS, delivers that feed to viewers. For someone comfortable managing Linux, Lightsail offers a concrete low-cost starting example. A managed service is a better fit if server maintenance, process recovery and monitoring are not work you want to take on.
| Option | What is established | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service for looping uploaded videos to YouTube, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; no server administration is needed. | Creators who want a managed, prerecorded-video loop rather than a VPS to maintain. |
| AWS Lightsail Linux/Unix VPS | AWS lists a $7 USD/month plan with 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 40 GB SSD and 2 TB transfer. [AWS Lightsail pricing, accessed 2026] | Operators willing to configure and monitor their own encoder. |
| DigitalOcean Droplet | DigitalOcean has an official pricing page, but a current plan price and specifications are not established here. [DigitalOcean Droplet Pricing] | Compare its live regional price, resources and transfer allowance before choosing. |
| Gyre or Upstream | YouTube lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube videos and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video. Current prices and exact fit for a meditation loop are not established here. [YouTube encoder information] | Nontechnical operators who want to investigate a managed workflow and confirm its current terms. |
There is not enough comparable current pricing and configuration evidence to prove one VPS provider is the cheapest overall. Compare the monthly price in your region, included transfer and overage rules, compute headroom for encoding, route to YouTube ingest, support and the administration time required. Lightsail is an example to evaluate, not a reliability-tested recommendation.
What the Lightsail plan includes—and what its transfer allowance means
AWS’s listing for the Linux/Unix public-IPv4 plan shows 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 40 GB SSD and 2 TB transfer for $7 USD per month (accessed 2026). AWS counts both inbound and outbound transfer toward the allowance; only outbound transfer above the allowance is subject to overage charges. Check the current terms and your actual usage before committing. [AWS Lightsail pricing]

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The VPS sends a single stream to YouTube. Its transfer usage is not the combined bandwidth viewers use to watch: YouTube handles viewer delivery. A high viewer count alone does not multiply the VPS’s outbound feed, although other server traffic and restarts can affect its transfer use. AWS’s material on a fuller live-streaming architecture illustrates a distinct encode, package and viewer-distribution setup. [AWS: Plan your deployment — Live Streaming on AWS]
Choose resolution and estimate transfer before going live
For a mostly static or gently animated meditation scene, evaluate 720p30 or 1080p30 first rather than paying to encode 4K. This is a practical starting recommendation for this type of content, not a YouTube requirement. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations list 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30; those are encoder settings, not a measurement of what a particular VPS bill will show. At a steady 4 Mbps, 30 days of continuous payload is about 1.3 TB: 4 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8, using decimal units. This is an estimate, not a provider bill. Protocol overhead, additional traffic and restarts can change actual consumption. A stream configured at YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate of 8 or 14 Mbps would use more payload than this 4 Mbps example if it ran continuously at that rate.
Configure YouTube Live and the encoder
- Enable live streaming for the channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned launch. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup flow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Create or select a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming destination fields. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, put it in a public script repository or send it to anyone who does not need access.
- Set the video and audio output. YouTube recommends RTMPS and supports RTMP/RTMPS as encoder protocols. Its supported video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1; supported audio includes AAC and MP3. For H.264, use the bitrate recommendation for your chosen resolution and frame rate. Set constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds. The platform supports up to 60 fps. Check the current settings table for the exact recommendation for your selected format. [YouTube encoder settings]
- Use a software encoder for the prerecorded loop. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software. FFmpeg is another plausible server-side approach, but the precise command depends on the media, build and desired behavior; do not assume an untested command will loop cleanly or recover correctly. Confirm the encoder continues to send valid video and audio after the file reaches its end.
- Run a representative test before announcing the stream. Check YouTube’s stream health and alerts, verify the audio is audible and in sync, inspect the image at the target resolution, and confirm that the loop transitions as intended. YouTube specifically advises testing before starting a live stream. [YouTube encoder settings]
Keep a self-managed VPS running
A single low-cost VPS is not an uptime SLA. It can reboot, lose its upstream connection, fill its storage or exhaust transfer. These are operational risks to plan for, not failures measured in a provider test.

- Use a process supervisor or equivalent service management so an encoder process can restart after a crash or reboot.
- Keep logs and monitor both the encoder process and YouTube stream health; a running process does not prove YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
- Keep a separate local copy of the source media. Confirm available disk space and avoid deleting the only copy when replacing a file.
- Test recovery deliberately: restart the process, check whether the encoder reconnects, and verify the YouTube stream resumes as expected.
- Track transfer use against the plan allowance and review the current overage terms. Include all server traffic in your estimate, not just the intended video payload.
- Choose a cloud region based on your location and observed YouTube ingest performance. Run a sustained test; a nearby region is not, by itself, proof of a better route.
Copyright, archives and channel expectations
Use meditation audio, artwork and footage that you own or are licensed to stream on YouTube. A long-running loop does not grant rights to music or visuals, and permission for one use may not cover continuous retransmission. Keep records of licenses and check their terms for livestreaming and monetization.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single stream left live longer than 12 hours will produce one complete automatic archive; plan separate recordings or archives if a full-length copy matters. [YouTube live stream setup]

Common problems and practical fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming stream | Wrong or stale server URL/key, encoder not started, or channel live access not active yet. | Confirm live activation, re-check the selected stream’s URL and key in Live Control Room, then restart the encoder. Keep the key private. |
| Stream health warns of instability | Unstable VPS-to-ingest route, insufficient CPU headroom, or inconsistent encoder output. | Check CPU and logs during a sustained test, confirm CBR and the keyframe interval, and try a different region or lower output setting if needed. |
| Video stutters or audio drifts | Encoder overload, source-file issues or mismatch between output settings and the media. | Test the source locally, inspect resource use, and simplify the output by reducing resolution or frame rate before raising the VPS size. |
| Loop stops when the file ends | The encoder is not configured to repeat the source or the process exits at end-of-file. | Test the file boundary before launch and configure or supervise the workflow so the next cycle starts; verify the outgoing stream rather than relying only on process status. |
| Transfer approaches the allowance | Higher bitrate than planned, additional server traffic, repeated reconnects or other workloads. | Review actual usage, reduce bitrate only while preserving acceptable quality and YouTube settings, or select a plan with an adequate allowance after comparing current terms. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a managed YouTube service for prerecorded videos, not a camera livestream or a general multistreaming service. The workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for plan details, then start the free day.
