Choose by fit, not age alone
Costume sizing can differ from everyday clothing sizes, and the Walmart Rubies listing specifically warns that its costume may run smaller than regular apparel. Measure the child and compare those measurements with the chart for the exact costume. Do not assume an age label or another manufacturer’s size recommendation will transfer to a different style.
- Check the chart for the specific costume and retailer before ordering.
- Make sure the jumpsuit and boot covers allow normal movement and do not drag.
- Review the retailer’s current return window, price, and size availability on the live listing; these details can change by retailer and season.
Make a quick safety check before wearing it
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Halloween safety guidance recommends costumes that fit well and do not drag. It also advises checking that masks fit securely, provide ventilation, and allow full vision.

- Check materials and surroundings: Look for flame-resistant labeling and keep flimsy, billowy garments away from ignition sources. A listing’s mention of polyester alone does not establish a product-specific safety certification.
