Short answer: Inservers is the more directly targeted option in the available provider information: it advertises a streaming VPS in New Delhi. Contabo documents a Mumbai data-center location and publishes VPS plans, but does not specifically position those plans for continuous YouTube relaying. Neither provider has independently verified streaming performance or a confirmed 24/7 relay guarantee here, so treat this as a shortlist—not a performance ranking—and verify the current terms before buying.

Which Indian VPS providers are worth comparing?

The evidence supports two candidates, with different degrees of fit for this task. Inservers markets a streaming VPS; Contabo publishes India VPS availability in Mumbai. Published specifications and prices below are provider statements, not independently tested results. A location in India by itself does not establish that a plan can sustain your stream’s outbound traffic.

Provider India location shown Published offer What the listing does not establish
Inservers New Delhi, on its streaming VPS page The provider advertises an entry offer from ₹880/month with 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe storage and a 1 Gbps unmetered uplink. It markets the service for relaying an OBS stream to YouTube and other platforms. The page is not an independent throughput test or proof of a contractual continuous-egress commitment. Confirm current price, transfer and fair-use terms, sustained egress, permitted use, SLA and support response.
Contabo Mumbai, on its India location page The provider lists VPS configurations with vCPU, memory, storage and monthly prices on its location page. The page does not establish that a particular configuration is suitable for continuous YouTube streaming, or validate its sustained outbound capacity. Confirm current Mumbai availability, price and terms.

On the published positioning alone, Inservers is the more obvious first inquiry for a streaming-relay workload. That is not a claim that it performs better than Contabo: the available information does not compare real-world routes, stream stability or support outcomes.

Can you use a VPS for 24/7 YouTube live streaming?

Yes. A VPS can run an encoder or relay process continuously and send its output to YouTube while your local computer is off. Whether a specific plan is a good fit depends on the workflow. Forwarding an already encoded stream generally uses network capacity; transcoding or encoding video on the server adds CPU requirements. The provider pages do not establish exact safe CPU, memory or bandwidth requirements for every setup.

First check that YouTube Live is available to your channel and configure the stream in your own account. YouTube’s encoder guide describes stream settings; it is not a channel-specific eligibility guarantee.

Size the outbound connection for your stream

Start with the bitrate YouTube recommends for your chosen resolution, frame rate and codec, using the current table in YouTube Help’s live encoder settings guide. YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingest, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. The exact bitrate depends on the settings you choose, so use YouTube’s table rather than assuming one figure applies to every stream.

  • One destination: plan for outbound traffic at the stream’s configured bitrate, with headroom for stable operation. Ask the host what sustained egress and transfer policy apply to your plan.
  • Multiple destinations: outbound traffic can multiply when the VPS forwards the stream to several destinations. Calculate the combined outbound load and have the provider confirm that the plan and its policy allow it.
  • NIC guidance is a separate use case: the National Informatics Centre’s webcast service guidance specifies 2–4 Mbps dedicated bandwidth per stream for the workflows described on its available services page. For a hired agency, it also calls for a static public IP and confirmation of outbound RTMP port 1935. These are NIC workflow details—not universal YouTube or VPS requirements—and do not replace YouTube’s encoder bitrate guidance.

A provider’s advertised port speed or “unmetered” label alone does not prove consistent throughput, permitted continuous use or uninterrupted service. Get the relevant network and acceptable-use terms in writing.

What to verify before choosing a VPS

  • Location and availability: confirm the specific India region you want is available for the plan, not merely listed on a general location page.
  • Workload fit: ask whether your process only relays an encoded stream or also encodes/transcodes it; then confirm the plan has suitable CPU and memory for that workload.
  • Network policy: get the sustained egress policy, transfer limits or fair-use rules, and any restrictions on continuous video relaying.
  • Reliability terms: distinguish an advertised uptime statement from a contractual SLA, including remedies or service credits if offered.
  • Operations: confirm static IP availability if your chosen workflow needs one, support hours and response expectations, backup costs, and any setup or bandwidth charges.
  • End-to-end test: test with representative audio and motion before relying on the stream. YouTube advises testing before a live event and monitoring stream health during it.

Set up and monitor the stream

  1. Check channel access and create the YouTube stream. Confirm live streaming is enabled for your channel, create or select the event in YouTube Studio, and retrieve the stream key and ingest details. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
  2. Prepare the VPS process. Install and configure the encoder or relay you intend to run. For an encoder, set the resolution, frame rate and codec to match your source and use YouTube’s current bitrate guidance. Configure RTMPS where supported, use CBR, and set a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds).
  3. Enter the ingest details securely. Add YouTube’s server address and stream key to the encoder or relay configuration. Avoid sharing keys in public logs, screenshots or support messages; rotate the key in YouTube if it is exposed.
  4. Run a representative test. Include the type of movement and audio expected in the real programme. Check YouTube’s stream health and the VPS process, network use and logs before scheduling a continuous run.
  5. Monitor during operation. Watch for dropped frames, ingest warnings, process restarts and network saturation. A VPS does not remove the need to manage the process or diagnose a host-side interruption.

Troubleshooting common failures

  • YouTube does not receive a signal: check that the event is live-ready, the stream key and server address match the current YouTube settings, and the VPS process is running. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the VPS configuration.
  • Stream health warns of instability or dropped frames: compare the encoder bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the selected resolution and codec. Check whether VPS egress is saturated, whether the provider imposes a transfer or fair-use limit, and whether the route is stable.
  • The stream works briefly, then stops: inspect encoder/relay logs and host alerts for a process crash, reboot, resource exhaustion or network interruption. Ask the provider whether continuous relaying is permitted and whether the observed event relates to a policy or limit.
  • CPU or memory stays high: determine whether the server is transcoding rather than simply forwarding the encoded stream. Reduce the processing load or choose a plan sized for the actual encoding workload; the published provider listings do not prescribe a universally sufficient configuration.
  • A static IP or port is requested: verify that the requirement comes from your chosen workflow. NIC’s agency instructions specify a static IP and outbound port 1935 for that service path; that should not be treated as a blanket YouTube requirement.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is simply to keep uploaded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
