For a self-managed 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream, use a virtual machine (VM) in an Indian region from AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure, then run your own playout and encoder process to send a continuous feed to YouTube Live. There is no evidence-backed universal cheapest or best provider: compare the specific VM and region, encoding workload, media storage, network transfer, and recovery plan for your stream. If you would rather not manage a VM, StreamNeo is a hosted YouTube playout alternative: upload a video or playlist, add your stream key, and go live from the cloud.
What “cloud playout” means for YouTube
In a self-managed setup, the cloud VM runs the process that reads your prerecorded video or playlist and continuously encodes or relays it to YouTube Live. YouTube receives that live ingest feed and transcodes it into formats for viewers. The cloud VM is the sender; YouTube is where the audience watches.
Do not assume that a cloud provider’s managed live-video service sends directly to YouTube. For example, Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documents storing stream manifests and segments in Cloud Storage, while AWS documents a CloudFront live-video pipeline for encoding, packaging, and delivery through CloudFront. Those descriptions do not establish direct YouTube output. For YouTube playout, use an encoder you operate on a VM or a hosted service explicitly designed to send to YouTube Live. Best options for Indian 24/7 YouTube playout
| Option | Why consider it | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Hosted YouTube playout runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day. | Confirm the slot count and storage you need; each slot includes 10 GB, pooled across active slots. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and playlists to YouTube, not camera feeds or other platforms. See StreamNeo. |
| 2. AWS VM in India | AWS identifies regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, so a self-managed sender can be deployed in an Indian region where the required VM type is available. | Check exact EC2 instance availability and price in the selected region, continuous compute cost, storage, outbound data, and whether your workflow uses a VM encoder or AWS Media Services. AWS’s documented CloudFront pipeline is not presented here as a direct YouTube relay. AWS regions and availability zones. |
| 3. Google Cloud VM in India | Google documents India regions including Mumbai and Delhi. Its Live Stream API is documented in Mumbai, but that is not proof of direct YouTube playout. | Verify Compute Engine machine availability and cost, whether you need a separate VM encoder, plus storage and network charges. Google Cloud locations; Google Cloud Live Stream API documentation. |
| 4. Azure VM in India | Microsoft announced four Azure cloud regions in India, including India South Central in Hyderabad. | Check current VM SKU and service availability in the exact region, continuous compute costs, transfer costs, and suitability for the encoding workload. The cited announcement does not specify a YouTube playout product. Microsoft Azure blog. |
Region presence does not guarantee that a particular VM type or media service is available there. Confirm availability in the provider’s current region and pricing tools before committing. The cited evidence does not support a like-for-like price ranking across providers.

Choose between a VM you manage and hosted playout
A self-managed VM fits operators who need control
Choose a general-purpose cloud VM if you can install and operate the playout and encoder software, manage media files and playlists, monitor the feed, and configure restart and recovery behavior. You control the workflow, but you also own the operational work. A cloud VM alone does not make the stream resilient: plan how the sender restarts after a process or machine failure and how you will notice a dropped feed.
A hosted service fits operators who want less infrastructure work
For a managed YouTube-only option, StreamNeo keeps the playback process in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the media without requiring a computer, OBS, or home internet connection to remain on. Each slot includes an always-on stream, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, support, and 10 GB of pooled storage per slot across active slots. Uploaded media streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.

Set YouTube ingest requirements before selecting a VM
Start with the resolution and frame rate you intend to send, because those choices affect both encoder workload and the bandwidth required for a steady ingest feed. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, supports RTMP/RTMPS, lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding with a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube says it recommends RTMPS because it is a secure extension of RTMP. YouTube Live encoder settings.
| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 4K at 30 fps | 42 Mbps |
| 4K at 60 fps | 50 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest bitrates, not guaranteed minimum cloud bandwidth or VM specifications. Leave capacity for audio, protocol overhead, and fluctuations, and confirm the selected machine can encode your target format if it must transcode rather than relay an already suitable file. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming video for viewers, but that does not remove the need for a stable feed from your sender.

Plan a self-managed cloud playout deployment
- Set the stream target. Choose resolution, frame rate, video codec, audio, and bitrate based on the channel’s intended output. Use YouTube’s recommended settings as a baseline; for H.264, the listed bitrate ranges from 10 Mbps at 1080p30 to 50 Mbps at 4K60.
- Confirm region and machine availability. Compare Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, or another appropriate Indian region where applicable, then verify that the exact VM family and any needed GPU or media capability is available. Region lists alone do not establish SKU availability.
- Decide whether to encode or relay. If the uploaded source already matches the outgoing format, a relay-style workflow may reduce processing needs; if it does not, size the VM for real-time encoding. Do not assume a provider’s managed packaging API is a YouTube sender.
- Stage and retain media. Estimate how much video and playlist content must be stored, how often files change, and whether the playout process reads from attached storage or remote object storage. Include persistent storage in the cost estimate.
- Configure the YouTube stream key and secure transport. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and use its server URL and stream key in the encoder. Prefer RTMPS, protect the key as a credential, and do not publish it in scripts or logs.
- Set encoding and keyframes. Configure CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, keeping it at or below YouTube’s four-second maximum recommendation. Match the chosen codec and bitrate to the planned resolution and frame rate.
- Build recovery and monitoring. Configure the playout process and operating system to restart after failure, monitor process and stream health, and decide how an operator will be alerted. A VM deployment does not itself establish an uptime guarantee or automatic recovery design.
- Test a representative playlist. Test with the intended video, audio, motion, and output settings before relying on the stream. Use YouTube’s stream-health indicators and confirm the feed recovers as expected after a controlled restart.
Estimate full recurring cost, not just the VM
For continuous playout, compare the cost of the selected VM over the full operating schedule together with persistent media storage and network transfer. Encoding may affect the machine size required; higher stream rates also make it especially important to estimate transfer for your schedule. Use each provider’s calculator for the chosen region and configuration. The available evidence does not establish a comparable current tariff or a cheapest provider.
- Compute: the VM type and operating hours, including any premium required for the encoding workload.
- Storage: media, playlist assets, logs, and any retained output or backups.
- Network: outbound transfer and any applicable data movement charges for continuous operation.
- Operations: time spent on setup, monitoring, process recovery, patching, and troubleshooting.

Common failure points and fixes
- YouTube reports an unstable or poor-quality feed: Check whether the sender can sustain the configured bitrate, verify CBR and the keyframe interval, and inspect VM and network capacity. Retest at the target resolution and frame rate.
- The stream stops when a process exits: Configure process supervision or an operating-system restart policy, then test a controlled process restart and confirm monitoring alerts you.
- The chosen machine is unavailable in the intended region: Check the exact SKU rather than relying on the region list. Compare another suitable region or machine type and recalculate transfer and latency implications.
- A managed cloud media API does not publish to YouTube: Verify the documented output destination before designing around it. An API that stores manifests and segments or delivers through a provider’s CDN is not evidence of a YouTube Live relay.
- The feed fails after a source or playlist change: Validate the media format, audio, duration, and playlist order with a test run before returning to continuous operation.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Only stream recordings and playlist items you have the rights to use on YouTube. A technically stable 24/7 feed does not establish that the channel or its content complies with YouTube rules, and continuous repetition does not remove copyright obligations. Review the platform’s current live-streaming and monetization policies for your content and channel before scheduling a long-running broadcast.
