Recommended Free Tools
StreamYard and Riverside are the strongest starting points for most YouTube interview shows: StreamYard foregrounds a live studio, guest greenroom and participant workflow, while Riverside combines livestreaming with guest recording and post-production tools. If your priority is broadcasting to many destinations, compare Restream as well. These are feature-based recommendations from vendor descriptions, not hands-on rankings of reliability or audio/video quality.
You do not need a separate interview studio to bring someone onto YouTube: YouTube supports webcam and encoder workflows, among other ways to go live. Choose interview software when its guest, production, recording or distribution features solve a specific need.
Which guest interview software fits your YouTube show?
| Choose | Best fit | What the provider describes |
|---|---|---|
| StreamYard | A browser-based live studio with a guest backstage workflow | StreamYard documents a guest greenroom, up to 10 on-screen participants, separate local audio/video recordings for on-screen participants on paid plans, reusable studios, chat overlay, custom RTMP destinations and multistreaming. Features depend on plan. StreamYard’s paid-plan features |
| Riverside | A live interview that also needs separate guest recordings and editing | Riverside says its product can livestream while recording, schedule and invite up to eight guests, and provide producer controls from backstage. It describes separate local uncompressed 48 kHz WAV audio for each guest and text-based editing. Verify current plan limits. Riverside product overview |
| Restream | Simultaneous broadcasting to several channels is the main requirement | Its pricing page lists self-serve tiers with 2, 3, 5 or 8 simultaneous channels, alongside plan-dependent participant, video-quality and recording limits. Check the live page for the tier you are considering. Restream pricing |
| YouTube with a webcam or encoder | You want to keep the setup within YouTube or need external production hardware | YouTube supports webcam and encoder workflows. Encoders can support external audio/video hardware, screen sharing and advanced productions, but require setup with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. YouTube encoder setup |

How to compare tools for a remote YouTube interview
Guest entry and live production
Check whether guests can join through the workflow you want, whether they wait backstage before appearing, and whether a producer can manage the show without taking part on camera. StreamYard documents a greenroom and participant capacity on paid plans. Riverside describes backstage producer controls and guest invitations. Confirm what the plan includes before inviting a panel.
#1 Best Overall

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Where the livestream goes
Start with the actual audience destinations. If YouTube is the only destination, a large multistream channel allowance may not matter. For other destinations, verify channel count, custom RTMP support and any guest-channel behavior. StreamYard documents custom RTMP destinations on paid plans; its Guest Destinations feature is also paid-plan-only. StreamYard says guests need an account to add channels; a guest can add up to two destinations, with up to six guest destinations total per broadcast. StreamYard Guest Destinations details
Riverside describes streaming to YouTube and other destinations, while Restream’s pricing page compares simultaneous channel counts by plan. Check the current terms for your intended destinations rather than assuming every channel or guest can connect in the same way.

Recording and editing after the show
A livestream and a clean interview recording are different deliverables. If you want separate guest tracks, editing tools or a recording suitable for a documentary cut, verify that those features are available on the plan you will use and understand how recordings are captured. Riverside describes local 48 kHz WAV audio for each guest, text-based editing and livestreaming while recording. StreamYard documents separate local recordings for on-screen participants on paid plans. These are provider descriptions, not independent assessments of final recording quality.
Panel size, team workflow and plan limits
Count everyone who needs to appear on screen, plus backstage guests and producer seats. A listed participant cap may not answer how many people can wait in a greenroom or what team controls are included. Compare the plan’s recording duration, storage, branding, resolution and cancellation terms as well; plan details and pricing are subject to change.

How do I bring a guest onto a YouTube livestream?
- Check YouTube eligibility. YouTube says your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube live-stream setup
- Choose the broadcast workflow. Use a guest interview studio when you need link-based guest entry, backstage production, multistreaming or separate recordings. Use YouTube’s webcam workflow for a straightforward on-camera stream, or an encoder when you need external hardware or more production control. YouTube supports these different routes; a third-party studio is optional.
- Set up the show and invite guests. In the chosen studio, create or schedule the broadcast, select YouTube as a destination, and send guests the joining instructions or invitation link the service provides. Test the guest’s camera and microphone before the program. Check the specific plan’s guest capacity and whether a producer can control the show backstage.
- Run a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Check that the host and each guest can be heard, faces are visible, the layout is legible, and the correct YouTube destination is selected. Review the service’s current instructions for connecting YouTube; labels and workflows can change.
- Go live and monitor the whole conversation. Watch the YouTube preview or live output, monitor audio and video, and keep a way to contact guests if their connection drops. YouTube recommends enough outbound bandwidth, headroom, setup testing and ongoing monitoring. YouTube streaming tips
When is an encoder a better fit than a guest studio?
An encoder workflow is worth considering when your production depends on external audio/video hardware, screen sharing or other advanced production controls. YouTube’s instructions require supplying the YouTube Live server URL and stream key to the encoder. Treat the key as private: use YouTube’s current setup instructions, and do not expose it in a public page, recording or message.
A browser interview studio can reduce setup friction for remote guests, but it is not a substitute for testing. An encoder can offer a route to more hardware and production control, but involves its own setup. YouTube’s encoder guidance establishes those capabilities; it does not establish that a particular third-party encoder is simpler, more reliable or better quality than an interview studio.

Test the interview and avoid common failures
- A guest cannot get on screen: Recheck the invitation or joining instructions, the guest’s browser/device permissions, and the participant limit and plan requirements. Do a join test before the scheduled show.
- The guest is visible but inaudible: Check the selected microphone, mute controls and audio input before going live. Ask the guest to speak during the test and confirm the audience-facing output, not just the studio preview.
- The show is connected to the wrong destination: Verify the selected YouTube channel and any other destinations before starting. If using an encoder, check that the server URL and stream key correspond to the intended YouTube stream.
- The broadcast stutters or drops: Test the full setup, use a stable connection with upload bandwidth headroom, and monitor the stream. YouTube warns, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” YouTube streaming tips
- The replay is not suitable for editing: Confirm recording features, track separation, storage and duration before the interview. A live broadcast does not by itself guarantee separate guest tracks or an editing-ready recording.
- A guest expects to send viewers to their own channel: Check whether the selected platform and plan support guest destinations and whether the guest needs an account. StreamYard’s rules for its Guest Destinations feature are described in its help page.
Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Before interviewing someone, agree on what footage, photographs, music or clips may be shown and who has permission to use them. Guest participation does not grant your channel rights to third-party material. Review YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements and avoid using copyrighted material without the necessary rights. If your interview includes licensed or archival content, establish the permissions before the broadcast rather than relying on a live takedown or dispute process.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a scheduled, pre-recorded YouTube program rather than a live remote conversation, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It is not a camera-based guest studio and streams to YouTube only.
