OBS Studio is the best-supported free software option in the sources consulted for looping a video on YouTube Live in India. Add a local video as an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For multiple clips, install VLC and use OBS’s VLC Video source with Loop Playlist. The software workflow is the same in India as elsewhere; channel eligibility and your computer and connection still matter.
Choose the right OBS loop method
| What you want to repeat | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Built into the documented OBS workflow; enable Loop to restart the file after playback ends. |
| Several clips in sequence | VLC Video | Requires VLC to be installed. Add a playlist and enable Loop Playlist; OBS documentation shows this option on by default. With 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. |
OBS Studio is free, open-source software for streaming and recording, distributed under GPLv2 or later. The OBS Media Sources guide documents these sources for Windows, macOS and Linux. YouTube also supports standalone hardware encoders, but one is not required for this local-file workflow. OBS Studio project · OBS Media Sources guide
Set up a single video on repeat
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the official OBS Project site.
- Create a scene. In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the video. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, browse to the local video file, and confirm.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS restarts the file when playback ends.
- Check the scene. Confirm the video fills the canvas as intended and that its audio is present at a suitable level. Preview the feed before broadcasting.
OBS is an encoder: it converts the video into a digital format that YouTube can receive. YouTube’s encoder flow uses a stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Loop a playlist of clips
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add the source. In the OBS scene’s Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video.
- Build the playlist. In the source properties, add the local files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable repeat. Confirm Loop Playlist is on. OBS documentation lists it as enabled by default, but check the setting before going live.
- Preview the sequence. Verify the order, transitions between files, picture and audio. Resolve missing-file or playback problems before starting the YouTube broadcast.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel access first. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours; that is an approximate duration, not a guaranteed deadline. Check access in YouTube Studio before planning a broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming · YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Create or manage the stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes the key as the credential/address that lets it accept the encoder feed: keep it private, and reset it in YouTube Studio if exposed.
- Use RTMPS and the recommended encoder settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS; its encoder guidance specifies H.264 among supported RTMP/RTMPS video codecs, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. Follow the current settings shown in YouTube’s encoder guidance for the selected stream. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Preview before going public. Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the event public. Confirm the event can be reached from the channel or watch page and on mobile, then monitor sound and picture during the broadcast. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream
The cited settings are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of performance on a particular computer or Indian internet connection. The sources do not establish a minimum India-specific connection speed for this workflow.

Check rights before repeating a documentary
Only stream video and audio you have the right to broadcast on YouTube. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the material remains. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption when the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If allowlisting applies to your rights arrangement, arrange it with the rights holder before the stream. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
Also consider whether the channel’s overall content is sufficiently original for YouTube’s monetization rules. Permission to show a film and eligibility to monetize a channel are separate questions; do not assume that permission alone settles monetization eligibility. Plan around long broadcasts and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Do not assume a continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete, permanently available archive or preserve rewind throughout. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder · YouTube Help: Enable DVR on live streams
Keep an eye on the whole chain
- OBS must remain open with the scene and source playing, and the computer must stay on.
- Your internet connection must continue sending the encoder feed; test and monitor stream health rather than assuming a successful preview guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Repeated playback is not the same as continuous availability: inspect file transitions and audio, and check the YouTube event itself.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Video stops at the end | Media Source looping is off. | Open its properties and turn on Loop; preview through the end of the file. |
| VLC Video is missing from the source menu | VLC is not installed or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check again. |
| Playlist stops after the last clip | Loop Playlist is disabled. | Open VLC Video properties and enable it; test the end-to-start transition. |
| YouTube receives no feed | Channel access is not enabled, or the stream URL/key is wrong or outdated. | Check live eligibility and enablement in YouTube Studio, then copy the URL and key for the selected stream again. |
| Live preview shows a rights placeholder or the stream is interrupted | YouTube has identified third-party material. | Stop or replace the material unless you are entitled to stream it; contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where relevant. |
| Feed appears in preview but viewers cannot find the event | Visibility, event access, or the public watch page may not be configured as intended. | Verify the event’s visibility and reachability from the channel or watch page and a mobile device before sharing it. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or connection to keep the broadcast running, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative for looping uploaded videos to YouTube Live. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video in the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
