There is no evidence-based single “best” Elixir electric string coating: Elixir says OPTIWEB, NANOWEB and POLYWEB offer the same protection and extended tone life, while differing in tone and feel. Choose the sound and playing response you prefer, then select a gauge that suits your guitar, tuning and setup.
How the three Elixir coatings differ
The descriptions below are Elixir’s own characterizations, not the results of an independent head-to-head tone test.

What the longevity claim does—and does not—establish
Elixir says its coatings protect winding gaps and plain steel strings, and that all three technologies provide the same protection and extended tone life. The company’s comparison frames the choice as one of tone and feel, not as a durability contest. See Elixir’s coating comparison.

The cited product and support pages do not give a controlled numeric lifespan comparison between coatings. They therefore do not establish a number of hours, weeks or months for a set, or that one coating lasts longer than another. For longevity, the supported conclusion is Elixir’s shared claim—not a verified ranking.
Choosing a gauge that fits your guitar
Each coating has a listed light set in .010–.046, making those sets a straightforward same-gauge comparison. Elixir calls .010–.046 its best-selling electric-string gauge on the NANOWEB page; that is the manufacturer’s sales description, not an independently audited market statistic.

Gauge availability differs by coating. Elixir’s OPTIWEB page also lists .009–.042 super light, .009–.046 custom light, .010–.052 light-heavy and .011–.049 medium options. Check the product page for the exact coating and set you intend to buy.
Your current setup and preferred feel are sensible starting points. Guitar scale length, tuning and instrument setup also matter, so a gauge change—especially a substantial one—may require setup adjustments. Consult a qualified guitar technician or setup resource if you are unsure how a change will affect your instrument. Elixir’s electric guitar strings page provides its broader product listings.
