Broadcast a finite playlist event
Restream supports scheduled video playlists, but its official help page limits each playlist to 24 hours and 40 videos. Items can be added, removed, or reordered only before the playlist goes live. That makes it a practical candidate for a bounded program, not a documented solution for an indefinitely repeating station.
Prepare mixed-length videos before going live
Different runtimes are not, by themselves, a reason to keep a physical playback computer running: the services described here use uploaded files or cloud scheduling. The important unknowns are compatibility, total playlist capacity, and how transitions behave in the chosen service. Check the current plan details rather than assuming every service accepts every file or lineup.

- Inventory the lineup. Record each video’s duration and file size, plus its intended order. Add the runtimes to determine the length of one complete cycle or scheduled block.
- Check service limits. Compare your total file count, storage use, and playlist duration with the current plan. For Restream, stay within its documented 40-item and 24-hour playlist maxima.
- Confirm compatibility and transitions. Check the service’s current accepted file specifications and whether it handles gaps, transitions, and the end of one video followed by the next as you expect. These details can depend on product settings and plan.
- Build and test the lineup. Upload a representative mix of short and long videos, configure the sequence or schedule, and run a test stream to YouTube. Check that playback advances as expected and that the live output is visible before relying on the channel.
- Plan how viewers will find past programs. A continuous live feed is not a dependable substitute for a complete on-demand archive or unlimited rewind.
Account for YouTube archives and viewer replay
YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. YouTube also cautions that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a documentary needs a reliable replay, keep a separate recording or publish an on-demand version rather than relying on the continuous live link alone. Clear rights before scheduling documentaries
Having a video file does not establish the right to livestream it. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers must have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music licensing rights.
