For the 2024 anime, Anna Yanami takes the top spot for combining a distinctive comic presence with the series’ central heartbreak premise. Lemon Yakishio and Chika Komari follow, while Kazuhiko Nukumizu ranks as the ensemble’s essential connective thread. This is a subjective, anime-focused ranking—not an official order or a claim about fan consensus, and it is not a prediction of who is the best romantic match.
How this ranking works
“Best” can mean funniest, most vulnerable, most changed by the story, or most important to the people around them. This ranking weighs four things: memorable characterization, comedy, emotional development after romantic disappointment, and contribution to Nukumizu’s relationships and the story. It focuses on the principal characters and selected supporting cast in the 2024 anime; it does not rank every character in the series.
The official character profiles establish roles, traits, and relationships, but they do not publish a definitive ranking. The order below is an editorial judgment based on how those characters function in the adaptation. A comedy-first ranking or one focused mainly on social growth could reasonably differ.
Best characters in Makeine, ranked
1. Anna Yanami
Anna is the strongest overall pick because her bright, popular image and big appetite sit beside the very real hurt of an unrequited childhood love. The contrast gives the comedy a clear character-specific source: she can be charming and socially confident, yet also absent-minded and emotionally exposed. Her disappointment is not merely a setup for a joke; it makes her one of the series’ most immediate emotional presences.

The official profile describes Anna as Nukumizu’s classmate, bright and charming, somewhat absent-minded, and a big eater. It also establishes her long-standing feelings for her childhood friend. Those details support her central place in the premise, though they do not by themselves establish any ranking. The official character page provides the profile and relationship context.
2. Lemon Yakishio
Lemon’s buoyant energy makes her a lively counterpoint to Anna. She is the track-and-field ace, loves running, and struggles somewhat with studying; that athletic confidence gives her a memorable identity beyond her romantic situation. Beneath her easygoing momentum, however, is uncertainty about her feelings for an intelligent childhood friend. That gap between apparent confidence and emotional ambiguity gives her story room to move.
Her value to the group comes partly from contrast: she brings a different rhythm and temperament to the central trio rather than repeating Anna’s mix of comedy and heartbreak. The official profile establishes her school role, interests, and romantic context, not a verdict on how readers should rank her.
3. Chika Komari
Komari is the trio’s most compelling choice for viewers drawn to quieter character development. A shy first-year in the literature club, she finds it difficult to talk to people. Her willingness to open up to her senior clubmates makes even small steps in communication meaningful. That arc has a different texture from the more immediately comic energy of Anna and Lemon: the appeal is in watching someone cautiously make room for other people.
Rank #2
- DARK DEKU: Hunt down the League of Villains with Total Anime Izuku Midoriya
- MY HERO ACADEMIA: 6.5-inch highly poseable figure is based on My Hero Academia
- 30+ ARTICULATION POINTS: Features 30+ points of articulation for dynamic play and display
- CUSTOMIZABILITY: Includes removable backpack, swappable faceplates, and alternate hands for customization
- SPECIAL ACCESSORY: Also includes energy effects to display Fa Jin and Blackwhip
The official profile confirms her shyness, club membership, and growing openness with her seniors. Those traits make her a strong character in an ensemble story about connection, even if her humor is less outwardly dominant than Anna’s.
4. Kazuhiko Nukumizu
Nukumizu is not one of the losing heroines, but he is the cast’s relationship hub. A first-year light-novel reader who describes himself as a loner, he begins from the edge of school social life. Contact with the heroines and literature-club members pulls him into other people’s concerns, making him the viewpoint through which the ensemble’s relationships take shape.
His understated observer role is useful precisely because the heroines are so distinct. He connects their stories without making their disappointments interchangeable. If “best characters” means the whole ensemble rather than the heroines alone, Nukumizu has a strong case for the top spot; this list puts the central heartbreak-comedy figures first.
5. Koto Tsukinoki
Koto gives the literature club a different kind of comic perspective. She is its capable third-year vice president, a childhood friend of club president Shintaro Tamaki, and an enthusiast of BL novels. The combination of organizational competence and a sharply defined personal interest makes her memorable without requiring the story to center on her romantic disappointment.

- Fight curses and be in the action - Gojo is back! This time the blind fold is coming off and he’s letting his hair down. As the strongest sorcerer in the world, Gojo has access to Hollow Purple, which is a remarkably powerful secret technique that was achieved by awakening the true power of the Limitless during his rematch against Toji Fushiguro. It launches imaginary mass, which can deal destructive damage to any target
- Manga Inspired packaging – Each Anime Heroes line has manga inspired packaging and beautiful artwork on the front featuring the characters you know and love
- Endless Play - Each figure comes with 2 sets of interchangeable hands, character specific accessories, and 20+ points of articulation to pose and play in endless ways

- Impressive likeness – Each figure comes with detailed sculpt and true to show features that Anime Heroes action figures are known for
Her place here reflects supporting-character specificity and comedic contribution, not the same emotional arc that drives the main trio.
6. Kaju Nukumizu
Kazuhiko’s younger sister Kaju is capable, attentive to her brother, and described in the official profile as something of a doting “brocon” who worries that he has no friends. That concern gives her a clear family role in a story largely organized around Kazuhiko’s expanding social world. Her presence also offers a different angle on him from his classmates and clubmates.
Kaju ranks below the central cast because her main contribution is supporting Kazuhiko’s side of the ensemble rather than carrying one of the principal heroine stories.

Anna, Lemon, and Komari are presented in the official character material as the central losing-heroine trio, but they are not variations on one personality. Anna’s social brightness and appetite make her heartbreak especially visible; Lemon’s athletic confidence plays against romantic uncertainty; Komari’s shyness makes gradual openness her defining movement. The series’ character appeal comes in part from those different responses to disappointment.

The supporting relationships help establish what each heroine is dealing with. The official profiles identify Sosuke Hakamada as Anna’s childhood friend and note that he is dating Karen Himemiya, Anna’s friend, who transfers into Kazuhiko’s class. They also identify Mitsuki Ayano as Lemon’s childhood friend and Kazuhiko’s former middle-school classmate, with Chihaya Asagumo in the same advanced cram-school class. These are contextual relationships, not reasons to treat any character as a romantic “winner.”
Is this an official or popularity ranking?
No. The order is a subjective ranking using characterization, comedy, emotional development, and story contribution. The official anime character page supplies profiles and connections, not voting results or a best-character order. No authoritative numeric ranking or vote total is established by the cited official pages, so this article does not present one.
