For a self-managed option, NivoHost advertises a ₹699/month streaming RDP plan; StreamData lists a ₹596/month VPS with 2 cores, 4 GB RAM and 200 GB bandwidth. Soft Host lists an India VPS Core plan at ₹599/month, but it was out of stock when checked. These are provider listings, not tested recommendations.
The right choice depends first on what “radio station” means: a live studio feed needs an encoder and a VPS that can sustain its outgoing stream, while an uploaded programme or playlist loop can use a managed service instead. The latter is where StreamNeo may fit; it is not a general-purpose VPS and the available information does not establish that it accepts a live studio feed.
First decide what you need to stream
Live studio audio or a live audio-and-video feed
If microphones, a mixer or other studio sources are live, you need an encoder running continuously and a server with enough sustained upload capacity for its output. A VPS gives you a remote machine to configure and manage; it does not by itself provide the encoder workflow, prove network performance, or guarantee that a YouTube broadcast will stay online. Confirm that the provider permits your streaming software and that the operating system—particularly Windows for an RDP plan—suits your setup.
Prerecorded programmes or a playlist loop
If you want to broadcast uploaded recordings as a YouTube live stream, rather than send a live studio feed, a managed cloud service may avoid maintaining your own VPS. StreamNeo advertises YouTube looping for uploaded videos and playlists, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It is a managed service, not a VPS; its suitability is limited to this uploaded-content workflow based on the available product information.

Budget VPS listings compared
The figures below are provider-published listings checked on 3 October 2026, not independent performance tests. They do not establish which service will perform best for a particular station.
| Option | Published price and resources | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| NivoHost RDP 1 | ₹699/month; 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB SSD and 20 TB bandwidth. The provider lists a streaming specification of 360p at 10 fps with 124 kbps audio. | The provider advertises a YouTube-streaming use case, but these specifications and performance are not independently tested. Check current stock and billing terms, and confirm that Windows RDP supports your software and workflow. |
| StreamData SD-2Core-4GB | ₹596/month; 2 cores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB RAID NVMe and 200 GB bandwidth. | The listing does not establish an India server location or tested YouTube performance. Its stated transfer allowance is much lower than NivoHost’s advertised 20 TB, so estimate your total stream bitrate before buying. |
| Soft Host VPS Core | ₹599/month; 4 vCores, 8 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, India location and fair-use unmetered transfer. | The plan showed out of stock when checked. Confirm availability and ask how fair-use limits are enforced before treating it as an option. |
These listed prices are not market averages. Before checkout, confirm the current total, renewal terms, taxes, stock, service region and transfer policy. A plan’s advertised port speed, if one is shown, is not the same as a monthly transfer allowance or proof of sustained throughput.

How much bandwidth a continuous stream uses
Transfer use depends on the stream’s total bitrate, not just its audio bitrate. At a steady 128 Kbps, an audio stream running for 30 days sends about 41.5 GB of decimal payload, before protocol overhead. This is a calculation, not a provider guarantee, and excludes video. A video stream can consume substantially more; size the plan using the actual combined audio-and-video bitrate you intend to send.
For a VPS with a stated 200 GB monthly allowance, even the audio-only calculation uses a meaningful share of the cap. Leave room for overhead, reconnects and other server traffic, and check the provider’s overage or post-cap behavior. Do not assume that “unmetered” means unlimited use without restrictions: Soft Host’s listing qualifies its transfer as fair use.

YouTube encoder settings and connection checks
YouTube’s official encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its guide supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 video encoders. YouTube recommends RTMPS as the encrypted extension of RTMP.
Choose settings your connection can sustain
- Video: For 1080p at 30 fps using H.264, YouTube lists 5 Mbps as a minimum and 14 Mbps as recommended. These figures apply to the video bitrate; account for audio and network overhead as well.
- Audio: YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio and supports AAC or MP3.
- Bitrate mode: Use constant bitrate, as recommended in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval, YouTube’s recommended value.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS when your encoder and configuration support it.
Do not select resolution or bitrate based only on VPS CPU and memory. The outgoing network connection must sustain the encoder’s total bitrate for the duration of the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate before going live, using representative audio and motion, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast.

Setup checklist for a self-managed VPS
- Confirm the workflow and operating system. Decide whether you are sending a live studio source or prerecorded material, then check that the VPS operating system and permitted software suit the encoder you plan to use. With an RDP plan, explicitly verify Windows compatibility and any applicable billing or licensing terms.
- Estimate transfer needs. Add audio and video bitrates, calculate monthly transfer for continuous operation, and compare that estimate with the plan’s included allowance and overage policy. Do not size a video stream using the audio-only 41.5 GB estimate.
- Check the streaming path. Confirm that the VPS can reach YouTube’s ingest service using RTMP or preferably RTMPS, and verify that the provider does not block or restrict the traffic your encoder needs.
- Configure the encoder. Use constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval, and supported audio encoding. Choose resolution and bitrate the server’s sustained upload connection can handle; for 1080p30 H.264, YouTube lists a 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended video bitrate.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the stream key in the encoder’s private settings and do not publish it in screenshots, chat, scripts or logs. If it is exposed, replace it through YouTube Studio before resuming.
- Run a representative test. Test the intended audio, motion, resolution and bitrate; check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and confirm audio is intelligible and stable before relying on the VPS for a continuous broadcast.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. Decide how you will detect a stopped encoder or dropped connection and restart it. A VPS is self-managed unless the provider explicitly says otherwise; the reviewed listings do not establish automatic recovery for a YouTube stream.
Copyright and YouTube policy checks
Having a VPS or a stream key does not give you rights to broadcast music, recordings, documentary footage, images or other material. Obtain the permissions or licences required for every element you stream, and keep records of them. A continuous radio-style broadcast can still receive a copyright claim or be interrupted if the rights holder objects.
Also consider YouTube’s rules on reused content separately from copyright. Permission to use material does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization, and a stream made mainly from reused recordings may be treated differently from original programming. Review the current YouTube Community Guidelines and YouTube channel monetization policies before building a channel around repeated or third-party material.

Common problems and practical fixes
- YouTube reports a weak or unstable stream: The VPS may not sustain the selected bitrate, or the connection may be fluctuating. Test upload capacity, lower the output bitrate or resolution, and check stream health using representative content.
- The stream stops after reaching a transfer limit: Compare actual usage with the allowance and provider’s cap behavior. A 200 GB allowance is not equivalent to an unmetered plan; obtain the provider’s overage or throttling terms.
- The encoder cannot connect: Verify the ingest protocol and stream key, check that RTMP/RTMPS traffic is permitted, and confirm the encoder is configured for the correct YouTube broadcast.
- Audio is silent, distorted or out of sync: Check the encoder’s audio input, sample path and AAC or MP3 output. Test with the same source and settings intended for the broadcast before going live.
- The server works, but a dropped broadcast does not restart: Treat restart and monitoring as part of your self-management plan. The reviewed VPS listings do not promise automated recovery for a dropped YouTube stream.
- The desired Soft Host plan cannot be ordered: Its VPS Core listing showed out of stock on 3 October 2026. Recheck availability rather than assuming the listed price represents an orderable plan.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your station broadcasts uploaded recordings or a playlist—not a live studio feed—StreamNeo is the first managed alternative to consider: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, accepts uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. No computer or home internet connection has to stay on. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across your active slots, and the same features regardless of billing length.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.
The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; cards are accepted worldwide. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support. See StreamNeo or its pricing page for current details. To try it, start with a free day.
