OBS is free and gives you direct control, but your computer and internet connection must keep running. A cloud service runs prepared video from its infrastructure, so you can turn off your computer. StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider for an unattended YouTube loop: it keeps uploaded video running from the cloud, supports the quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
What makes a 24/7 animated loop work
The animation is the content; the streaming service or encoder is what delivers it to YouTube continuously. You can send a video through an encoder on your own computer, or upload it to a cloud provider that loops it from managed infrastructure. The right choice depends mainly on whether you can keep a computer and network connection available, and whether you want to manage the broadcast yourself.
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming, but the channel must be eligible and verified, and live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check the current live-stream status in YouTube Studio before preparing a long broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance explains the encoder workflow.
Best options for keeping the loop live
- StreamNeo — best cloud choice for an unattended YouTube loop. It runs uploaded video from the cloud, supports the quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives new accounts a free first day.
- OBS Studio — best free local option. OBS is open source and free for any use, including commercial use. Choose it if you can keep a suitable computer and reliable connection running and want direct control over the encoder. OBS does not operate streaming servers; the connection goes directly to the destination. OBS Help
- Looping Stream — cloud option with continuous playlists. The provider says you configure the broadcast in a browser, after which managed servers run it, and that playlists can repeat continuously. Confirm current limits and terms with the provider. Looping Stream
- Streamloop — cloud option for playlists and scheduling. The provider describes continuous playlist streams, scheduling and support for common file types. Check its current pricing and plan limits before choosing it. Streamloop
- Loopcast — cloud option that advertises reconnect recovery. The provider says it loops video to YouTube and can restart a dropped connection. Its displayed price and trial may change, so verify them directly. Loopcast
These descriptions reflect what the providers and product pages say, not independent uptime testing. The available sources do not establish comparable service-level guarantees, failure rates or head-to-head reliability results. Before paying for any provider, check its accepted formats, supported resolution and frame rate, playlist behavior, storage, recovery process, stream-key handling, monitoring and support terms.

Use OBS to stream the loop from your computer
A local OBS setup is a practical no-subscription route if your computer can remain on and connected. The exact menu labels can vary by OBS version and YouTube Studio layout, so follow the current on-screen prompts.
- Confirm YouTube eligibility. In YouTube Studio, check that live streaming is available for your verified channel. Review YouTube’s current setup instructions and choose an encoder workflow.
- Prepare a loopable video. Export the animated background as a finished video file and check that it plays through without a blank frame, unintended pause or abrupt audio. If you use a playlist, test the transition between files. Use only video and audio you own or are licensed to broadcast.
- Configure the stream in YouTube Studio. Create or schedule a live stream in Live Control Room. Select the encoder setup and copy the stream URL and stream key shown there. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not put it in a public document or share it with an untrusted service.
- Set up OBS. Open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube if offered, or use the custom service option with the stream URL and key from YouTube. Add the prepared video as a media source, enable looping for a single clip, and arrange the scene to match the intended frame. OBS’s Help Portal provides troubleshooting guidance.
- Match the output to the source and connection. In Settings → Video, choose a canvas and output resolution that suit the animation; avoid upscaling a smaller source just to select a larger number. In Settings → Output, select a bitrate your sustained upload connection can support. Set the keyframe interval and other encoder requirements to the values YouTube displays for the stream. Those requirements can vary by format and change over time, so use the current YouTube instructions rather than relying on a fixed setting copied from an older guide.
- Test before committing to a long broadcast. Start the encoder and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room before going live. Watch for dropped frames, frozen video, audio problems and unexpected scene changes. OBS says its dropped-frame indicator can rise when the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. If dropped frames continue, lower the bitrate or output resolution, use a wired connection where possible, and check whether other devices or applications are using the upload bandwidth.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Follow the Live Control Room prompts to go live. For a 24/7 run, plan how you will respond to a computer crash, power loss, network interruption, OBS exit or YouTube disconnect; a local encoder depends on your machine and connection staying available.
Plan for YouTube archives, rights and monetization
Do not rely on a full replay of a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be archived automatically, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, keep a local recording or split the broadcast into shorter sessions. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Archive live streams

Clear the rights for every part of the loop
Rights apply to the complete live feed, including the soundtrack, samples and any background visuals. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights for the live content. Use original material or obtain permission or a suitable licence for everything in the loop. YouTube livestream terms and conditions
A working stream is not a promise of monetization
Technical acceptance by YouTube does not mean a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible and expects original content to offer creative, educational or other viewer value. Since review may consider a channel’s theme, videos and metadata, give an animated background stream a distinct purpose rather than relying on a repeated visual alone.
