Is Berlin a prequel to Money Heist?
Yes. The series follows Andrés de Fonollosa, known as Berlin, before the events of Money Heist (also known as La casa de papel). Pedro Alonso reprises the role. The first installment, Berlin and the Jewels of Paris, focuses on an earlier period in his life and a Paris jewel heist. Netflix describes the character’s story as taking place long before he takes hostages at the Royal Mint of Spain. What is Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine about?
The follow-up takes Berlin and his crew to Seville for a new heist. Netflix’s May 7, 2026 guide also reports that production filmed in Madrid, Seville, San Sebastián, and other locations in Spain. Pedro Alonso described the character’s return as “a new chapter for his character,” according to that guide.

Who is in the cast of the 2026 follow-up?
Pedro Alonso returns as Berlin alongside the core crew from the first series:
- Michelle Jenner as Keila
- Tristán Ulloa as Damián
- Begoña Vargas as Cameron
- Julio Peña Fernández as Roi
- Joel Sánchez as Bruce
New named cast members include Inma Cuesta, José Luis García-Pérez, and Marta Nieto. Netflix’s cited announcement names them but does not establish their roles in the follow-up.

How popular was the first Berlin series?
Netflix reported that the first installment spent seven consecutive weeks in its non-English TV Top 10, accumulating 53 million views and 348 million hours viewed during that period. The company also said the series reached the Top 10 in 91 countries during its premiere week and was the most-watched series globally in its launch week. These are Netflix-reported figures, not independently audited measurements; the viewing totals refer to the stated Top 10 run, while the 91-country figure refers to premiere week. They should not be compared with another title unless the measurement definitions and time periods match.
