He added: “This is very crazy for me. There’s a lot of cool people here. I’m really excited to perform. I’m kind of like… crapping my pants right now.” His comments captured both sides of the moment: anticipation about performing and the nerves of being at a major awards ceremony.
A first Grammy nomination and a scheduled performance
The February 2 ceremony was Boone’s first Grammy Awards as a nominee. He was nominated for Best New Artist and was scheduled to perform that evening. His remarks were made before the event, so they describe how he felt going into the show, not his reaction afterward.

Boone’s recollection of discovering he could sing
In the same PEOPLE interview, Boone spoke about his musical beginnings: “In between four-and-a-half and five years ago I discovered I could sing.” He said he had sung every day since. That timeline is Boone’s own recollection.
