BenQ America announced it on May 20, 2024, at a US launch price of $5,999. That figure is historical launch pricing, not a verified current street price.
What the W5800 is built to deliver
BenQ positions the W5800 around a 4K UHD image, wide-gamut color and laser illumination rather than all-in-one convenience. Its published resolution is 3840×2160, with a rated brightness of 2600 ANSI lumens. BenQ also lists 100% coverage of both the DCI-P3 and Rec.709 color spaces.
Those figures are manufacturer specifications. The available evidence does not include independent measurements of brightness, contrast, color accuracy or HDR performance, so they should not be treated as comparative test results.

HDR-PRO: the named processing features
BenQ’s HDR-PRO package combines three named processing features:
- Local Contrast Enhancer, intended to adjust contrast in different areas of the image.
- BenQ HDR Tone Mapping, which maps HDR content to the projector’s available brightness range.
- SSI Dynamic Black, a dynamic-light-control feature intended to improve dark-scene presentation.
These are features in BenQ’s implementation. The available documentation does not establish that HDR-PRO outperforms competing projectors in measured testing, so buyers should regard the feature list as an explanation of what is included, not a verified ranking.
Room placement and screen planning
The W5800 is intended for a room where the projector can be permanently or semi-permanently installed. Its 1.6× zoom and motorized lens shift provide more placement latitude than a fixed-lens design.
Rank #2
- TK700 vs TK700STi: TK700 utilizes standard throw (100"@8.2ft). TK700STi possesses short-throw capabilities able to project at shorter distances (100"@6.5ft). While still delivering perfect image accuracy and clarity.
BenQ’s launch announcement says the projector can produce a 150-inch image from 16.6 feet. Treat that as BenQ’s stated installation example: measure from the lens to the screen, account for the projector’s physical depth and mounting position, and confirm the required image size with the official throw-distance calculator before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy lens shift matters
Vertical shift of ±50% and horizontal shift of ±21% can help align the image when the mounting point is not perfectly centered on the screen. Lens shift preserves the optical geometry better than relying on digital keystone correction, but the available shift range still depends on the chosen image size and zoom position.
Brightness in context
A 2600-ANSI-lumen rating may provide useful headroom for a large screen, but perceived HDR impact depends on screen gain, image size, room reflections, lamp or laser mode and ambient light. A dedicated, darkened theater is the natural target; a bright multipurpose room should be evaluated with those trade-offs in mind.
Rank #3
- UNMATCHED BRIGHTNESS - Experience vibrant visuals with 5100 ANSI lumens, ensuring clear and bright images even in well-lit environments, perfect for impactful presentations and immersive viewing.
- ULTIMATE 4K RESOLUTION - Immerse yourself in stunning detail with native 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution, delivering exceptional clarity and sharpness for professional presentations and home theater.
- LONG-LASTING LASER - Benefit from a reliable laser light source with a lifespan of up to 20,000 hours in normal mode, reducing maintenance and ensuring consistent performance for years to come.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY - Connect with ease using dual HDMI 2.0b ports, DisplayPort, HDBaseT, and more, offering seamless integration with various devices for enhanced flexibility in any setting.
- FLEXIBLE INSTALLATION - Achieve the perfect image with a short-throw ratio of 0.81-0.89, lens shift (H: ±23%, V: ±60%), and keystone correction, making setup easy in diverse spaces.
External equipment you should budget for
Streaming
The W5800 does not include an integrated streaming platform according to Forbes’ May 2024 report. Streaming services therefore require an external source such as a streaming device, disc player or home-theater computer. No specific streamer is established by the available product evidence.
Sound
BenQ lists no built-in speaker. Plan a separate AV receiver, sound processor and speakers, or another external audio system. The projector’s eARC connection can return compatible TV or source audio over HDMI, but it does not supply the missing speakers.
Connections
Two HDMI inputs cover common source devices, while eARC can integrate the projector into a compatible audio chain. Check the number and type of sources you intend to connect; an HDMI switch or receiver may be necessary if two inputs are insufficient.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to evaluate the W5800 against alternatives
Rather than comparing headline resolution alone, use the following checkpoints:
- Room and screen: verify throw ratio, zoom range, lens shift and the screen size your room can accommodate.
- Light control: compare rated brightness with your screen size and expected ambient light.
- Color: distinguish manufacturer gamut claims from independent measurements.
- HDR: check supported formats and how each model handles tone mapping, highlights and dark scenes.
- Longevity: compare the light-source type and rated operating life under the modes you will actually use.
- System design: account for HDMI count, audio return, speakers and streaming hardware.
- Ownership terms: verify current regional price, stock and warranty coverage before ordering.
The available evidence identifies the W5800’s published features but does not provide enough current, independently tested comparative data to name a competing projector as a definitive winner.

Who should consider it?
The W5800 makes the most sense for someone building a dedicated theater who values 4K resolution, wide-gamut color, long-life laser illumination and flexible ceiling or shelf placement. Its lack of built-in streaming and speakers is less important in a planned component-based theater, where those functions normally live elsewhere.
It is a less straightforward fit if you want a compact, plug-and-play television replacement with integrated apps and sound. In that case, the required external components add both cost and installation complexity.
What is established—and what remains to verify
- Established: the May 20, 2024 US announcement, $5,999 launch price, published 4K, brightness, color, HDR, laser-life and lens specifications, HDMI/eARC connectivity and absence of a built-in speaker.
- Still requiring a current check: street price, live inventory, Amazon availability, regional warranty terms and real-world comparative image performance.
The Bottom Line
The BenQ W5800 is a serious 4K laser home-theater component, with flexible motorized optics and a broad published feature set. Its $5,999 figure belongs to the May 2024 US launch, while current value depends on today’s price, your room geometry and the external streaming and audio equipment the projector requires.
