The commercial is Dunkin’s “The DunKings,” the brand’s Super Bowl LVIII spot that aired on February 11, 2024. Ben Affleck crashes Jennifer Lopez’s recording session with a Boston-themed novelty group featuring Matt Damon and former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The result is a deliberately self-mocking pop-star performance built around iced coffee, New England celebrity culture and a joke about Affleck and Damon’s Good Will Hunting connection.
What happens in Dunkin’s “The DunKings” commercial?
Affleck arrives at Jennifer Lopez’s recording session convinced that he has found his calling as a pop performer. He introduces his group, The DunKings, wearing Dunkin’-colored tracksuits and performing a song called “Don’t Dunk Away at My Heart.”
Matt Damon and Tom Brady join him as fellow members of the group. Brady is presented as the keyboard-playing celebrity, while Damon plays the role of Affleck’s friend and reluctant accomplice. Lopez, whose studio session has been interrupted, reacts with skepticism, and Bronx-born rapper Fat Joe helps underline how questionable the group’s musical ambitions appear to be.
Jack Harlow also appears in the wider campaign narrative as a cautionary voice. The joke is not that Affleck is secretly an undiscovered pop genius; it is that he takes the idea with total seriousness while the people around him appear increasingly embarrassed.

The spot followed the group’s performance of “Don’t Dunk Away at My Heart” and turned Affleck’s fictional music career into the central promotional premise for Dunkin’s 2024 Super Bowl campaign. Dunkin’ describes the campaign in its official campaign release.
Who appears in the commercial?
| Celebrity | Role in the campaign |
|---|---|
| Ben Affleck | The self-serious aspiring pop star and leader of The DunKings. |
| Matt Damon | Affleck’s friend and reluctant bandmate. |
| Tom Brady | The former Patriots quarterback presented as the group’s keyboard-playing sports celebrity. |
| Jennifer Lopez, or J.Lo | The recording artist whose session is interrupted and whose skeptical reaction anchors the joke. |
| Fat Joe | A musical figure who helps critique the group’s performance. |
| Jack Harlow | A musician who provides a warning or cautionary interruption in the campaign story. |
Brady’s participation gives the commercial a specifically New England angle. Dunkin’ highlighted his 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and seven Super Bowl victories when explaining his place in the campaign. Damon extends the familiar Affleck-and-Damon pairing, while Lopez’s presence makes the premise more personal: the fictional pop star is interrupting his wife’s professional recording session to promote his own music.
How “The DunKings” fits into Dunkin’s advertising story
The Super Bowl commercial was not designed as a standalone celebrity cameo. It was the next chapter in what Dunkin’ called its “Dunkin’ Cinematic Universe.”
The 2023 drive-through commercial
The story began with Affleck’s 2023 Dunkin’ commercial. In that spot, he worked at a Dunkin’ restaurant in Medford, Massachusetts, serving actual customers—including Lopez. Dunkin’ identified that campaign as its first-ever Super Bowl commercial in its announcement about the 2023 campaign.

The next installment was a Grammy Awards teaser titled “Popstar.” It established Affleck’s desire to move beyond his familiar acting persona and pursue a music career. “The DunKings” then served as the Super Bowl reveal: Affleck had assembled a band, recruited famous friends and created a song that sounded much more convincing to him than to anyone else in the room.

Dunkin’ said Artists Equity—Affleck and Damon’s company—served as the campaign’s creative, production and post-production agency. That connection helped turn the commercial into a small, serialized piece of entertainment rather than a single disconnected endorsement.
The Good Will Hunting joke
One of the commercial’s most recognizable pop-culture references comes from Good Will Hunting, the 1997 film written by and starring Affleck and Damon. Damon delivers a variation on the movie’s famous “How do you like them apples?” line, changing the wording to “How do you like them … donuts?”
The reference works because it combines two parts of the campaign’s appeal: the real-life Affleck-Damon association and Dunkin’s New England identity. It is a deliberately obvious joke, but the familiarity of the film gives the exchange an extra layer for viewers who know the pair’s earlier work.

If the commercial sent you back to the film, a Good Will Hunting DVD is the most direct physical-media tie-in. That is a recommendation for the referenced movie—not official Dunkin’ merchandise—and availability, edition and price can change by seller.
The DunKings menu
Dunkin’ connected the fictional band to a limited-time menu launched with the campaign. The principal beverage was The DunKings Iced Coffee, described by Dunkin’ as classic iced coffee with vanilla notes, cream, Sweet Cold Foam and cinnamon sugar.
The menu also included a MUNCHKINS skewer containing three assorted MUNCHKINS. These were campaign-era offerings associated with the 2024 launch. Their inclusion in the original release does not establish that the same menu items are still available now, particularly outside the original promotion period.

Dunkin’ also announced physical merchandise tied to the campaign:

The merchandise was announced for release through ShopDunkin.com on February 12, 2024, at noon Eastern Time, while supplies lasted. The official announcement confirms that these products were part of the original campaign launch; it does not confirm that the original inventory remains available in 2026.
That distinction matters for shoppers. A current listing using “DunKings” in its title may be resale merchandise, an unofficial product or an unrelated Dunkin’ item. It should not automatically be treated as an authorized campaign product.
A practical alternative for iced-coffee fans
If the appeal is the drinkware rather than collecting the original campaign item, a 40-ounce insulated tumbler can serve a similar everyday purpose for iced coffee. This is generic drinkware, not an official DunKings tumbler, so check the seller, materials, lid design and current price before buying.
Why the commercial’s premise works
“The DunKings” layers several recognizable identities into one short piece:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Affleck’s public persona: The humor depends on his willingness to play an exaggerated version of himself—earnest, overconfident and determined to become a pop star.
- The Affleck-Damon friendship: Damon’s presence recalls their long professional association and gives the fictional band an immediately recognizable second member.
- Boston and New England symbolism: Dunkin’ uses Affleck, Brady, the Massachusetts setting established in earlier advertising and the brand’s regional associations to create a distinctly New England flavor.
- Lopez as the skeptical professional: Her reaction provides the grounded counterpoint to Affleck’s enthusiasm.
- Serialized advertising: The 2023 restaurant commercial, the Grammy teaser and the Super Bowl spot reward viewers who recognize the continuing story.
- Products inside the joke: The iced coffee, MUNCHKINS and merchandise allow the fictional band to become a menu and retail campaign.
The commercial aired during Super Bowl LVIII, the game in which the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. CBS Boston covered the spot as part of its Super Bowl commercial coverage and identified the studio-performance setup involving Affleck, Damon, Brady and Lopez.

Was “The DunKings” the best Super Bowl commercial?
That is a matter of opinion, not a verifiable fact established by the campaign materials. The spot clearly had the ingredients of a high-profile Super Bowl advertisement: several major celebrities, a recognizable song premise, a recurring storyline and merchandise viewers could buy. But “best,” “most popular” or “most successful” would require a specific survey, viewership comparison, engagement dataset or sales result.
A more defensible description is that “The DunKings” was one of the event’s most elaborate celebrity-driven brand stories. Its significance comes from the way Dunkin’ combined self-parody with a continuing fictional universe and a product launch, rather than from an objective ranking that has not been supplied.

The Bottom Line
“The DunKings” is Dunkin’s 2024 Super Bowl LVIII commercial: Ben Affleck’s fictional pop-star attempt brings Matt Damon and Tom Brady into a Boston-themed band, interrupts Jennifer Lopez’s recording session and turns a Good Will Hunting reference into a Dunkin’ product campaign. The menu and merchandise were limited-time 2024 offerings, so present-day availability should be checked rather than assumed.
