Disney’s first look at the live-action Lilo & Stitch introduced a CG Stitch designed to bring the blue alien into a live-action world. That reveal came at D23 in August 2024; the film has since been released, and Disney lists it as available on Disney+ in the United States.
What the first look showed
The original “Behold, Your New, Live-Action Stitch” hook came from a first look Disney presented at D23 and Gizmodo covered on August 10, 2024. It was a design reveal, not a new announcement about the character: Stitch was being translated from the 2002 animated film into a computer-generated character for a live-action adaptation. Chris Sanders, who voiced Stitch in the original, returned as the character’s English-language voice.
The visual change is the central point of the reveal: an animated character would now share scenes with live-action performers and settings. Disney’s description frames the story around the same basic premise—a lonely Hawaiian girl adopts a crash-landed alien—but the available official material does not establish a critical consensus on how the design compares with the original.
The film is out, not forthcoming
The 2024 first look promoted a planned summer 2025 theatrical release. That date is now historical: Disney’s US title listing identifies Lilo & Stitch as a 2025 film and lists it as available on Disney+. Streaming catalogs vary by territory and can change, so check the service in your region.

Stitch’s popularity extends beyond the film
Disney reported that Stitch merchandise sales, including sales by licensees, eclipsed $4 billion in fiscal 2025. This is a company-reported consumer-products sales figure for Stitch merchandise overall—not a count of film-related products or merchandise exclusive to the live-action movie. Disney’s June 2026 626 Day material also described a wave of products inspired by Stitch.
For readers looking for a character collectible, “Stitch plush toy” is a useful search phrase. It does not identify a specific product, confirm current stock, or establish that a plush matches the live-action CG design.
