Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set in Brooklyn, but its main production was filmed in Los Angeles, not New York City. The series was based at CBS Studio Center in Studio City; the familiar exterior of the fictional 99th Precinct is a real Brooklyn police station used for establishing shots.
Where was Brooklyn Nine-Nine filmed?
The primary production base was CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Los Angeles. Peacock’s official series page identifies the studio as the filming location, and Variety’s reporting on the show’s locations likewise describes production in the Los Angeles area, mainly at CBS Studio Center.

That distinction matters: Brooklyn is the show’s fictional setting, not the location of most of its production. The sources identify the main base and several location exceptions, but do not provide a complete episode-by-episode account of every place used across the series.
Is the 99th Precinct a real place?
The 99th Precinct is fictional. Its recurring exterior is the real 78th Precinct at 65 6th Avenue in Brooklyn, used as an establishing shot. That recognizable view makes the show feel rooted in New York, but it does not mean the cast and crew filmed the main production there.

IMDb’s location listing for the pilot also names CBS Studio Center and 65 6th Avenue, corroborating the studio and exterior locations. IMDb’s location information is user-contributed, so it is best treated as supporting detail rather than an official production record.
What other locations stood in for New York?
Los Angeles-area locations also appeared as New York settings. Variety gives examples including Nick’s Cafe in Chinatown, Woodbury University in Burbank, and Engine Co. 17 in the Arts District. These are examples, not a comprehensive list of filming locations for all eight seasons.

Peacock’s series page lists all eight seasons and 153 episodes and says the complete series is available on the service. Those are catalog figures shown on Peacock’s page in 2026, rather than a separate production statistic.
