Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, often called Beetlejuice 2, opened to an estimated $145.4 million globally, according to Swank Motion Pictures’ contemporary report of September 9, 2024. Its North American opening was estimated at $110 million. The headline’s “record” holds only in a narrow sense: TheWrap reported that the domestic opening was the second-largest for any September at the time. The reporting does not establish a global opening record.
Opening figures by geography and date
The figures below mix contemporary estimates with later database totals. They measure different things and should not be compared directly.

Subtracting the domestic estimate from the global one leaves roughly $35.4 million, but no source in this reporting gives an international-only opening figure. Treat that difference as arithmetic, not a reported number. International release began September 4, 2024, two days before the North American release on September 6, so the global estimate covers a window that started earlier than the domestic weekend.
Is it a record?
TheWrap’s September 8, 2024 report placed the domestic opening second among September openings, behind It (2017), which opened to $123.4 million domestically. That is the supported ranking, and it is domestic and month-specific.

- Supported: second-largest domestic opening for a September release, as of the 2024 reporting.
- Not established: a global opening record. None of the cited sources ranks the $145.4 million global estimate against other films’ worldwide openings.
- Exhibitor records: Cinemark CEO Sean Gamble said the film “drove Cinemark’s best domestic September box office weekend of all time, while conjuring up concessions and premium format records.” That describes one theater chain’s results, not the film’s box-office ranking.
How the domestic opening built across the weekend
TheWrap’s September 8, 2024 report said the film opened in 4,575 theaters. Its daily figures, as reported that day, were:

Staying power and share of September
AP reported on September 22, 2024 that the film had topped the North American box office for a third consecutive weekend. Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian, quoted by AP, said: “September has been a bit of a sleepy month and with around 47% of the revenue being generated by this single film.” The 47% figure refers to domestic box-office revenue for September 2024, as AP reported it.
