BattleBots announced a return-to-screen initiative on February 6, 2026, as part of a collaboration with Bright Data that also includes a new robot-fighting league. The announcement does not confirm a premiere date, a platform, or a specific new television season. Meanwhile, robot combat has continued through events such as the National Havoc Robot League (NHRL), where builders compete in multiple weight classes and spectators can follow league events.
Is BattleBots coming back?
BattleBots’ February 6, 2026 announcement describes a collaboration with Bright Data, a new robot-fighting league, and a return to screen. It also points to planned projects involving AI-controlled robots and a “creature combat” competition. The announcement is a statement of direction: it does not name a release date, a distribution platform, or a confirmed season.
BattleBots founder and CEO Edward Roski said in the announcement: “This collaboration with Bright Data helps us move to the next generation of bot fighting. We have millions of passionate fans across the world, and they are all eagerly waiting for the next big step in the sport.” The audience figure is Roski’s characterization, not an independently verified measurement.
What happened to robot fighting while BattleBots was off screen?
Robot combat is a competition as well as a television spectacle. NHRL describes the sport as custom-built, remote-controlled machines battling inside an enclosed arena. Founded in 2018, according to its about page, the league runs Open events and a 2026 Pro Tour, with competitions in 3 lb, 12 lb, and 30 lb classes.

The work around a fight extends beyond driving: builders design and manufacture machines, prepare weapons, pass safety inspection, and repair robots between bouts. NHRL says competitors use tools and methods including CAD, precision machining, 3D printing, and other advanced manufacturing. It also says it uploads fights from multiple angles for later viewing.
How NHRL’s 2026 competitions work
Open events and Pro Tour qualification
NHRL’s 2026 Pro Tour information describes three events, culminating in a Pro World Championship in December 2026. Builders qualify for a Pro Tour invitation by reaching the quarterfinals at an Open event. There is no public Pro Tour registration; NHRL sends invitations. The league says a top-four finish at an Open or Pro Tour event qualifies a robot for the Pro World Championships.

Groups, brackets, and prizes
Pro Tour competition begins with group stages: each robot fights three times in its group, followed by play-ins and a single-elimination bracket. NHRL says each event awards up to $30,000 in prizes. That is the league’s stated maximum for each 2026 Pro Tour event, not a guaranteed amount for every competitor.
Where and when to watch
NHRL’s homepage lists November 7, 2026 as its next event and says Pro Tour broadcasts are live and available on demand through DAZN. Event schedules and viewing arrangements can change, so check the league’s current listings when planning to watch.

What makes a robot win?
NHRL’s 2026 judging guidance puts weight on effective use of an active weapon and attacks that meaningfully advance the fight. Carrying a legal weapon is not enough if a robot never uses it to affect its opponent. As the league puts it, “We also believe it’s more entertaining when both robots use their active weapon as it was intended, rather than simply carrying a legal mechanism to pass inspection.”
A weapon failure does not automatically end a robot’s chances. A machine can still win through engagement, aggressive driving, and use of the arena to disable an opponent’s drive or weapon. But losing an active weapon generally counts against a robot because weapon effectiveness remains a core scoring factor.

Safety is part of the competition
NHRL requires inspection before a robot fights. Its rules include checks of weapon locks and covers, radio fail-safes, power cutoffs, and design and functionality requirements. They call for accessible cutoffs for weapon and drive systems. Lithium-chemistry batteries must be charged using balance leads, and charging batteries must be attended.
The rules also require weapon and drive testing in a test box, with a stated exception for wheels-up testing when a dedicated weapon switch is used. These are NHRL’s requirements; builders should follow the rules of the specific event they enter and any applicable local requirements.
