Who is Keith?
Keith is the titular neighbour in Playlunch’s song and music video. Frontman Liam Bell told ABC Music that the premise came from a neighbour associated with the band’s former outer-Melbourne sharehouse, who objected to people parking in front of his house.
Bell described the inspiration as “the psycho tradie neighbour who lived beside us at our old outer-Melbourne sharehouse” and said the man would “verbally assault anyone who DARED park in front of his house.” He also said the song took off when the band first played it live, adding: “everyone knows a Keith.” ABC Music published Bell’s account on June 19, 2025.
The account establishes the broad inspiration, not the identity of a specific person. Keith is the song’s comic character; the available reporting does not identify the neighbour by name.

What does Barry Hall do in the video?
Hall, a former AFL player, plays Keith. In its June 16, 2025 report, PerthNow described scenes in which Hall’s character reacts to someone parking in his spot and confronts the neighbours. Those are the report’s descriptions of the video’s action; the central premise, as Bell explained it, is the neighbour’s anger about people parking outside his house.
Hall’s casting turns the neighbour into a vivid on-screen character, but the story behind the song belongs to Playlunch’s account of its old sharehouse experience—not to a claim that Hall is portraying the real neighbour. PerthNow reported on Hall’s cameo on June 16, 2025.

What kind of song is “Keith”?
ABC Music characterized Playlunch’s sound as “Bogan Funk,” describing a blend of electropop, vintage grooves and suburban satire. That is the outlet’s description rather than a formal genre classification. The neighbour’s parking dispute gives the song a distinctly everyday source for its larger comic character.
“Keith” later reached fourth place in the 2025 triple j Hottest 100, according to ABC News’s report published January 31, 2026. ABC News covered the result alongside the song’s campaign and place in the countdown.
