Barbie uses more than one kind of soundtrack: the 17-song companion album, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt’s instrumental score, and additional licensed or background music heard in scenes. The guide below identifies the songs with established scene connections and explains where an album track should not be mistaken for a confirmed on-screen cue. Scene order is more dependable than minute-and-second timestamps, which can vary by edition.
How the Barbie soundtrack is organized
There is no single release that functions as a complete list of every sound cue in the film. The official companion album, the instrumental score, and other music used in the movie have different scopes.

| Barbie The Album | A 17-song companion album of songs recorded for and inspired by the movie. | It includes several prominent vocal songs, but album inclusion alone does not establish that a track is a major or easily identifiable scene cue. |
| Barbie (Score from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) | Instrumental score by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, released separately. | These cues are distinct from the pop songs on the companion album. |
| Additional music in the film | Licensed and background songs used in scenes, including music that is not necessarily on either release. | Scene guides may identify these uses, but they should not be described as album tracks unless the official album tracklist confirms it. |
Recognizable songs and when they play
The descriptions below identify scene or sequence connections rather than exact timestamps. They distinguish songs with clear narrative roles from album tracks whose precise scene placement is less firmly established.
| Song | Artist | Scene or function |
|---|---|---|
| “Pink” | Lizzo | Helps establish Barbie Land’s bright, choreographed everyday routine near the start of the film. |
| “Dance the Night” | Dua Lipa | The glossy disco centerpiece associated with the beach-party and dance sequence. It is one of the film’s principal musical introductions. |
| “Barbie World” | Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Aqua | A contemporary reworking built around the musical idea of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl.” It is not the original 1997 recording playing as a standalone cue. |
| “Speed Drive” | Charli XCX | High-energy driving-montage music associated with the film’s car imagery. |
| “Journey to the Real World” | Tame Impala | Psychedelic transition music as the story moves out of Barbie Land. |
| “Watati” | Karol G featuring Aldo Ranks | Upbeat music associated with Barbie Land and the transition toward the real world. |
| “I’m Just Ken” | Ryan Gosling | Ken’s character song, performed as a large-scale power ballad during the Kens’ takeover sequence. |
| “Home” | HAIM | Reflective material associated with the film’s more vulnerable emotional stretch. |
| “Hey Blondie” | Dominic Fike | An album track associated with the story’s counterpoint to Barbie’s identity crisis; treat its exact scene placement as less certain than the major set pieces. |
| “Man I Am” | Sam Smith | A male-identity-themed album contribution used in the film’s late-stage musical run. The exact cut is not established here. |
| “Butterflies” | GAYLE | Included on the companion album; its inclusion there should not be taken as proof of a prominent in-film cue. |
| “What Was I Made For?” | Billie Eilish | An instrumental version recurs during Barbie’s existential crisis; the full vocal version is heard in the final scene. |
What plays during the beach-off?
“Dance the Night” is the song most closely associated with the beach-party and dance sequence. It supplies the polished disco energy of the set piece, while the sequence also introduces the film’s stylized, choreographed version of Barbie Land. A timestamp is not included because playback editions can differ.

What plays when Barbie reaches the real world?
“Journey to the Real World” by Tame Impala is the psychedelic transition song associated with the move out of Barbie Land. “Watati” by Karol G featuring Aldo Ranks is also associated with Barbie Land and the real-world transition. These are songs, not instrumental cues from the separately released score.
What plays during the Kens’ takeover?
Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” is Ken’s character song and the centerpiece of the takeover sequence: a deliberately oversized power-ballad performance. Mark Ronson has said that the line “I’m just Ken, anywhere else I’d be a 10” captured Ken’s whole life and gave the song its starting point.

What song plays in the final scene?
Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” is heard first in instrumental form during Barbie’s existential crisis, then in its full vocal version in the final scene. That progression makes the song both a recurring musical idea and an emotional resolution, rather than a single isolated cue.
Is “Barbie Girl” in the movie?
The soundtrack connects to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” through “Barbie World,” a new credited track by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Aqua. Do not confuse that reworking with the original 1997 recording playing in full as a separate film cue.

Why the album and the movie’s music list do not match
Ronson and director Greta Gerwig gave contributing artists about 20 minutes of the film to convey its tone and story, and told them where they envisioned each song falling. That creative process helps explain why the companion album is shaped around the movie without being a literal cue-by-cue index: it contains songs recorded for and inspired by the film, while the finished movie also has a separate instrumental score and additional music.
Scene guides identify other licensed and background uses, including brief appearances and repeated plays, but a release tracklist cannot establish all of those cues. For a complete list tied to a particular copy of the film, check the edition being watched; streaming, Blu-ray, and digital cuts can shift credits and therefore timestamps. Scene descriptions are the safer way to locate the songs across editions.

Where to find the official releases
Barbie The Album is the official 17-song companion release. The instrumental score is available as Barbie (Score from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. They are separate releases, so look for the album or score by its full title when choosing which one to hear.
