Spoiler warning: This shortlist includes late-manga events and the ending of My Hero Academia, beyond what anime-only viewers may have seen. Bakugo’s best moments are not simply his biggest explosions: they show combat ingenuity, a complicated bond with Deku, accountability, and a growing understanding of what it means to be a hero. “Best” is subjective, so these are selected for what they reveal about him—not presented as a fan poll or objective ranking.
What makes a Bakugo moment matter?
Bakugo begins as Deku’s childhood friend and rival, a U.A. hero-course student whose ambition is to become the No. 1 hero. His Explosion Quirk lets him detonate nitro-like sweat from his palms. Those details give his standout scenes two useful dimensions: how cleverly he uses his ability, and how his pursuit of victory changes as he comes to understand other people and heroism differently. The Yomiuri TV character profile provides this official character framing.

The moments below are arranged as a character arc rather than a popularity ranking. Early scenes establish his competitive instincts; later ones show the cost of his choices and the meaning he eventually gives to protecting others.
Early moments: rivalry and raw ambition
Facing Deku as a rival
Bakugo’s relationship with Deku is more than a simple contest between classmates. Their history gives their confrontations emotional weight: Bakugo sees someone he once underestimated become a serious rival, while Deku’s determination keeps challenging Bakugo’s assumptions. The tension is compelling precisely because it is personal, not just a comparison of fighting styles.

Turning explosive power into movement
Bakugo’s combat style stands out when he uses Explosion for more than direct damage. Detonations can propel him, change his position, and help him control the pace of a fight. That makes his action scenes feel tactical: he is using the same ability to attack and maneuver, rather than relying on power alone. His palms are the source of his nitro-like sweat, as described in the official profile, so this mobility is part of how his Quirk works—not a separate power.
Moments that expose the cost of his behavior
Recognizing his part in the divide with Deku
Bakugo’s arc gains depth when he begins to face how his own treatment of Deku contributed to the distance between them. The importance of these scenes lies in the shift from seeing Deku only as a challenger to acknowledging the harm in their shared history. It does not erase his earlier conduct; it makes accountability part of the character’s development.
Rank #2
Letting vulnerability show
Bakugo often presents himself through confidence, anger, and a refusal to yield. Scenes in which fear or regret breaks through that front matter because they complicate the image he tries to project. His ambition remains, but it becomes possible to see that victory is not the only thing at stake for him.
Late-manga moments: choosing what a hero does
Ending spoilers: The following discussion concerns the manga’s late story and conclusion. VIZ identifies My Hero Academia, Vol. 42 as the final volume and describes it as covering the characters’ endings and reconstruction. Readers who want to experience those events unspoiled should stop here.

Putting protection ahead of pride
Some of Bakugo’s strongest late-story moments come when he acts to protect others despite the danger and despite the possibility that he will not be the one celebrated for it. These choices make his growth concrete: heroism is no longer only a contest he intends to win. The ambition to stand at the top still matters, but the way he pursues it changes.
Understanding Deku without reducing him to a rival
By the end of the story, Bakugo’s bond with Deku carries a different meaning than it did in childhood. Their connection still includes competition, but it also includes recognition of Deku’s efforts and a more honest reckoning with their past. That change gives their shared scenes emotional force without requiring Bakugo to become less intense or less himself.
Rank #4
Why the ending completes his arc
The final volume places the characters’ futures in the context of reconstruction. Bakugo’s ending is meaningful as the culmination of a character who has had to reconsider both what he owes other people and what being the best should mean. For the series’ collected volumes, Shueisha’s official series listing includes volumes through 42.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where to start if you want the full arc
- For the complete manga ending: Start with the early volumes if you want Bakugo’s relationships and changes in context; volume 42 is the conclusion and contains ending spoilers.
- For a collection: Shueisha’s official series page also announced a “MAXIMATIC KATSUKI BAKUGO III” prize figure for July 2026 and an Ichiban Kuji release for September 2026. These are dated announcements, not confirmation of current stock or prices.
Bakugo’s moments work best as parts of one progression: a gifted competitor learns that raw strength and personal victory are not enough. His most memorable scenes balance the spectacle of Explosion with the harder changes in how he treats Deku, accepts responsibility, and chooses to act.
