Short answer: AzuraCast has the clearer documented path for unattended radio automation: its AutoDJ can assemble continuous audio from media assigned to playlists. RadioDJ is Windows radio automation software, but its current official landing page does not establish a complete, supported direct workflow for sending continuous audio and video to YouTube Live. Neither radio product alone should be treated as a complete YouTube Live setup: YouTube needs an encoder feed, and a YouTube radio channel also needs a video signal.
What each product does—and what YouTube still needs
Radio automation and YouTube delivery are separate jobs. Automation chooses and plays audio; YouTube receives an encoder’s live audio-and-video feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions call for the YouTube Live server URL and stream key to be entered in the encoder, with supported combinations of video and audio codecs described in its encoder setup guidance.
That distinction matters for both products. AzuraCast documents a station workflow in which AutoDJ, using Liquidsoap, assembles media, playlists, and live inputs, while a broadcasting frontend such as Icecast serves the resulting audio stream. For YouTube, you must additionally establish a compatible path from that audio to an encoder that supplies video and sends the finished feed to YouTube. RadioDJ likewise needs a verified encoder arrangement for YouTube; its current official product page does not establish that whole setup.

Which one fits an always-on YouTube channel?
Choose AzuraCast when server-managed AutoDJ is the priority
AzuraCast is the more clearly documented choice if you want a station running on a server rather than relying on a Windows desktop. Its media guide explains the key unattended-playback step: assign uploaded files to one or more playlists so AutoDJ can use them. Its playlist system supports rotation and scheduling, and the project documents advanced customization through Liquidsoap rules. The phrase “24 hours a day, 7 days a week” describes the software’s continuous-stream design, not guaranteed availability of the server, network, or YouTube feed.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose RadioDJ when Windows-based radio automation is the priority
RadioDJ’s official site lists Windows 10 and 11, common audio formats, and an external encoder for newer versions. That may suit a Windows-centered radio workflow, but do not assume that RadioDJ by itself produces the video stream YouTube requires. Before building an unattended channel around it, verify current documentation for the exact RadioDJ version, how it hands audio to the encoder, how video is added, and what happens if either process or the connection stops.
Consider a cloud video-looping service if you do not need radio-station automation
If the goal is to keep uploaded recordings looping on YouTube rather than build a full radio station with automation rules, a purpose-built cloud option can reduce the local setup burden. StreamNeo is #1 among the options covered here for that narrower use: it keeps an uploaded-video stream running from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives the first day free. It is not a substitute for AzuraCast or RadioDJ’s radio automation features.

How to plan the YouTube signal
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the codec and resolution you choose rather than copying a bitrate from a different format. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS transport with H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio; it calls for constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, no longer than 4 seconds. The appropriate bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. Check the current YouTube encoder settings table for the specific combination.
- Enable YouTube live streaming in advance. For a first-time live stream, YouTube says enablement can take up to 24 hours. Complete this before a planned launch. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Choose the automation and hosting boundary. For AzuraCast, plan a server installation that stays operating and confirm how its audio output will reach the encoder. For RadioDJ, confirm the version-specific external encoder handoff and video arrangement before relying on it unattended. Keep the automation host, encoder, and internet connection in the operating plan.
- Configure the encoder from YouTube’s current settings. Enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Select a supported transport and codec, CBR, and the recommended keyframe interval; use the current table for the bitrate appropriate to the chosen resolution and frame rate. Encoder setup · Encoder settings
- Provide an actual video signal. A radio automation system may produce audio, but YouTube Live expects a video-and-audio encoder feed. Decide what visual will accompany the radio audio and verify that the encoder outputs a supported video stream; do not mistake an Icecast or Shoutcast audio stream for a complete YouTube broadcast.
- Test the full chain before leaving it unattended. Confirm playlist playback, audio level, video output, YouTube ingest, and monitoring. Check YouTube’s stream-quality indicators during operation, as recommended in its live-streaming tips.
Keep the stream running and protect the replay
“Always-on” describes the intended playback workflow, not a guarantee against a server outage, local computer failure, encoder crash, or network interruption. AzuraCast’s documented continuous AutoDJ behavior does not guarantee that a particular host will remain online. For either setup, monitor the automation host and encoder, check YouTube’s incoming stream, and decide how you will detect and recover from a stopped process or dropped connection.

Live continuity and replay preservation are separate concerns. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, keep a local recording backup or plan session boundaries rather than assuming a long-running stream will become a complete archive. YouTube also recommends checking the local archive during operation. See its guidance on archiving live streams and streaming tips.
