For a YouTube-first radio livestream, RadioBOSS is the more direct fit: its manual documents sending an RTMP stream to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. AzuraCast is a self-hosted internet-radio platform; its documented RadioBOSS setup sends audio into an AzuraCast station over Icecast, not directly to YouTube. Use both only if you want a separate AzuraCast station as well as YouTube output.

Can RadioBOSS stream directly to YouTube?
Yes. RadioBOSS documents RTMP output to services including YouTube. YouTube provides the server URL and stream key; RadioBOSS uses those values to send the broadcast. RadioBOSS is the simpler route if YouTube Live is the destination and you do not need AzuraCast’s separate station-management layer.
Configure the RadioBOSS RTMP encoder
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming if necessary, then create or select a stream and copy its server URL and stream key. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- In RadioBOSS, open Settings → Options → Broadcast → Custom Encoders. Add a custom encoder and select RTMP.
- Enter YouTube’s RTMP server URL and stream key. Set a background image or video for the visual output, and install the plugin if RadioBOSS prompts you to do so.
- Add a broadcast encoder that uses
[rtmp]and the custom encoder you configured. - Start the encoder and check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the incoming stream. For a scheduled stream, connect the encoder at the scheduled time and use the control-room go-live action if YouTube prompts you.
For a scheduled broadcast, YouTube’s Live Control Room workflow lets you promote the stream in advance and viewers can receive reminders. YouTube describes encoder streaming as the option for more advanced productions and external audio or video equipment; an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming. How do you connect RadioBOSS to AzuraCast?
Use this route when you want RadioBOSS to provide a live audio feed to an AzuraCast station. AzuraCast recommends Icecast for DJ and broadcaster connections because Liquidsoap intermediates those connections. This creates an AzuraCast station feed; it is not the same setup as RadioBOSS sending RTMP directly to YouTube.
- In AzuraCast, open the station’s Streamers/DJs page and obtain the connection credentials for the broadcaster.
- In RadioBOSS, add a broadcast encoder and choose Icecast.
- Enter the AzuraCast connection details from the Streamers/DJs page, then connect the encoder and confirm the station receives the live feed.
AzuraCast’s setup guide specifies RadioBOSS Standard or Advanced for live broadcasting; Express is not supported for that feature. Follow the current station guide for the precise fields and credentials: AzuraCast RadioBOSS connection guide.

Can AzuraCast stream to YouTube?
The reviewed AzuraCast documentation covers station streams and DJ clients, but does not document AzuraCast itself outputting a YouTube video stream. The documented combination is RadioBOSS sending audio to AzuraCast over Icecast. RadioBOSS separately documents RTMP output to YouTube. If you need both an AzuraCast station and a YouTube livestream, treat them as separate destinations and verify the exact multi-output configuration and capacity you intend to use; simultaneous-output limits and reliability are not established by the cited guides.
Which should you choose?
- Choose RadioBOSS alone when YouTube Live is the main destination and you want scheduled radio automation with documented direct RTMP output.
- Choose AzuraCast when you need a self-hosted internet-radio station with DJ accounts, browser-based Web DJ, public pages, requests or relays.
- Use RadioBOSS with AzuraCast when you want RadioBOSS to supply a live DJ/audio feed to an AzuraCast station; add YouTube as a separate output only after confirming your intended configuration.

YouTube archive and copyright considerations
YouTube’s current help guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a YouTube platform rule, not a promise that every stream will be available indefinitely; check current Live Control Room guidance for your account. YouTube live stream archiving guidance

Before broadcasting music or other recordings, make sure you have the rights needed for the content and livestream use. Using automation software or an encoder does not grant those rights. YouTube can apply its copyright and monetization policies to livestreamed material; check its current rules and the licenses for each recording before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

Does RadioBOSS’s AzuraCast setup also send the stream to YouTube?
