Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now titled Avengers: Doomsday. Disney’s current UK materials confirm a 2026 theatrical release, but disagree on whether it opens on 16 or 18 December. An official trailer is available, and Disney has confirmed a large ensemble spanning the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakandans, and returning Thunderbolts characters.
What happened to The Kang Dynasty?
Marvel originally announced the project as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Disney’s 2025 announcement and its 2026 promotional materials use the current title, Avengers: Doomsday. The former title is useful context for tracking the project, but the name change does not establish that Kang has a role in the film or that the movie adapts a particular comic storyline. Marvel’s original announcement and Disney’s 2025 production announcement document the earlier title and the project’s development.

When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Disney’s UK sources conflict on the date. Disney UK Press and Disney+ UK list 16 December 2026; Disney UK’s film page and The Walt Disney Company’s San Diego Comic-Con report list 18 December 2026. None of those sources explains the two-day difference, so neither date should be treated as a settled global release date. Check local cinema listings and Disney’s regional pages as release approaches.

Is there a trailer?
Yes. Disney UK Press announced a trailer and poster on 20 July 2026. Disney UK’s film page lists an “Official Trailer” and a “Special Look”; Disney+ UK also links to the theatrical trailer and describes a special look shown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026. What is the film about?
Disney’s official synopsis says heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a collision course and face an existential threat. Disney+ UK names the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Wakandans among the groups involved. That is the confirmed premise; Disney has not established further story details here, including Kang’s role.
Disney+ UK says viewers can jump into the film without having watched earlier Marvel films or shows. The countdown collection is an optional refresher, not a stated prerequisite.

Who is making Avengers: Doomsday?
Anthony and Joe Russo are directing. Disney names Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz as producers; Disney UK lists Stephen McFeely as writer. Disney’s 2025 production announcement said production had begun and confirmed the Russo brothers’ return to direct.
Is the film an adaptation of the Kang Dynasty comic?
That has not been confirmed. Marvel’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty trade paperback is a 389-page collection by Kurt Busiek, published on 6 November 2002. It collects Avengers (1998) #41–55 and Avengers Annual 2001, and its story features Kang returning and enslaving Earth. It is a comic collection, not an established movie tie-in or a confirmed preview of the film’s plot.
