PEOPLE reported on May 17, 2023, that Ariana Madix was telling people in her circle she was “falling in love” with Daniel Wai. The phrase came from an unnamed source quoted by the magazine—not from a direct interview with Madix. Later interviews gave a clearer picture of her own feelings, but the latest source covered here, published in June 2026, does not confirm the couple’s status today.
What did the “falling in love” report say?
In a May 17, 2023 PEOPLE report, an unnamed source said: “Ariana’s been telling people in her circle that she’s falling in love with him.” The source described the relationship as beginning as a “light rebound fling” before developing into a “special bond.” Those are the source’s characterizations, not statements Madix made directly in that report.
How did Ariana Madix meet Daniel Wai?
PEOPLE reported that Madix and Wai met in Mexico at a mutual friend’s wedding shortly after Madix’s March 2023 breakup with Tom Sandoval. They were first spotted together at Coachella in mid-April 2023. The same report said Wai was living in New York City and that the two were making a long-distance relationship work.
What has Madix said about the relationship?
Her 2023 comments on distance
In a 2023 interview recapped by Cosmopolitan, Madix said long distance had helped her focus on herself after what she had been through. The magazine rendered her comment this way: “Long distance has been…really good because it has allowed me to focus on me and not be jumping into something…after everything that I went through.”

Her 2025 comments on the future
Cosmopolitan’s May 2026 timeline reported that in May 2025 Madix described ways the couple stayed connected: they had phone dates, chose a recipe, ordered ingredients, cooked together remotely and watched shows. She also said she did not love the idea of long distance over the long term and discussed a possible future move-in, with work and travel affecting the timing.
In a May 2025 appearance on the Access Hollywood podcast, Madix said, “I do want to spend the rest of my life with this man. I, every single day, am so lucky that I get to be with him and get to experience the joy that is him.” AOL quoted those remarks in a June 2, 2026 profile. They describe what Madix said about her hopes and feelings in 2025; they do not independently establish her relationship status now.

As of October 2026, the sources cited here do not confirm whether Madix and Wai are still together. Cosmopolitan’s May 2026 timeline reports public appearances through February 2026, and AOL referred to Wai as Madix’s boyfriend in June 2026. Neither establishes what happened after its publication date, so the 2023 “falling in love” report should not be presented as a current status update.
