What happened at the Singapore premiere?
The incident took place during the Wicked: For Good premiere event at Resorts World Sentosa on November 13, 2025. Although it has been described in some headlines as a red-carpet moment, coverage also calls it a yellow-carpet event.

According to CNA, the breach occurred between 7 p.m. and 7:11 p.m. Australian Johnson Wen, then 26, jumped over a barricade, rushed toward Grande, put an arm around her and jumped up and down. Co-star Cynthia Erivo and security officers intervened, and Wen was escorted away. During that escort, he made another attempt to get over the barricade but was stopped. The event continued. Wen was arrested the next day.
What was Wen charged with?
Wen was charged with public nuisance. The charge was initially brought under Section 290(a) of Singapore’s Penal Code and later amended to Section 290(b). CNA reported that the amended provision carries a maximum penalty of three months’ jail, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both. The legal charge was not assault, and the court outcome should not be described as a conviction for assault.

What sentence did the court impose?
Wen pleaded guilty to one charge of causing annoyance to the public by causing a commotion. On November 17, 2025, he was sentenced to nine days in jail. In mitigation, he told the court, “I won’t do it again, your honour,” CNA reported.
ABC News Australia reported that District Judge Christopher Goh said: “You should be mindful that there are always consequences for one’s actions.” The outlet also quoted him saying the court needed to “send a signal to like-minded individuals… that we will not condone any act that potentially undermines the reputation of Singapore as a safe country”.

What happened after Wen served his sentence?
On November 23, Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said Wen had been deported to Australia and barred from re-entering Singapore, CNA reported.
