A 99-cent movie rental from Google Play was reported in 2020, but that historical community post does not confirm a current Google offer. Google still supports movie rentals; check the price displayed on the title page in your account and country to see whether a discount is available to you.
Is a 99-cent Google Play rental available now?
There is no official confirmation in the available sources of a generally available 99-cent promotion today. The documented $0.99 deal is an individual 2020 report in the r/ShopCanada community. It does not establish that the offer is active now, applies broadly, or recurs.

To check a specific film, open its page in Google TV or Google Play Movies & TV where available and look at the price beside Rent. Google’s available rental instructions note that features and products vary by country, so an offer shown to someone else may not appear for your account or location. Where to rent a movie from Google
On Android phones and tablets, Google moved movie buying, renting, and watching from the Play Store’s Movies & TV section to the Google TV app starting in September 2022. Google said existing purchases would remain available in Google TV. Google’s transition notice.

- Open Google TV or, where it remains available, Google Play Movies & TV.
- Search for the film and open its title page.
- Review the displayed rental price and select Rent if you want to proceed.
- On a computer, go to play.google.com, open Movies, choose a title, and select Rent.
Google’s current app listing describes buying or renting newer movies and shows through the Shop tab. Availability and storefront options can vary by region and device. Google TV on Google Play.
Check the rental period before paying
The viewing window is title-specific. On the movie’s page, look under Additional Information for Rental Period; do not assume every rental has the same time limit. Google also says rentals and purchases can be watched on supported devices. Its app listing describes viewing on a laptop, Android phone or tablet, and on a TV with Google TV or Play Movies & TV where available.

Do you need a Google TV device?
No special streaming device is required just to rent a movie. A compatible TV or streaming device is only an optional way to watch on a television; check that your particular device and the title are supported in your region. Google’s app listing also says purchases can be downloaded for offline viewing, but that description refers to purchases and should not be taken as a promise that every rental can be downloaded.
