Mel is Ambessa Medarda’s daughter, and Season 2 reveals that she has mage magic. The Black Rose targets Mel because of her connection to Ambessa’s family and her power. The series establishes that threat, but does not fully explain the organization’s ultimate plan for Mel.
What is the Black Rose?
The Black Rose is an old Noxian cabal, not simply a supernatural place. In official League of Legends Universe lore, LeBlanc is identified as its Matron, and the order is described as older than Noxus, using schemes and recruitment among the powerful. Riot’s LeBlanc biography provides that wider-lore context; it is distinct from what the show directly reveals about Mel.

Why does the Black Rose want Mel?
Netflix’s official Season 2 guide identifies Ambessa as Mel’s mother. The season’s Black Rose storyline reveals that the organization is seeking Mel, while a Netflix Tudum production feature describes Mel discovering her mage magic. Her family connection and her abilities link her to the conflict.
The sources establish that the Black Rose wants Mel, but they do not fully spell out its endgame. It is not confirmed in these official materials that the group intends to recruit, control, or sacrifice her. Wider League lore about the Black Rose and LeBlanc does not fill in those show-specific gaps.

Is Mel’s prison real?
No. The chains in Mel’s prison sequence are not physical restraints. Netflix Tudum’s production feature explains that a magical device immobilizes her body while her mind is projected into an illusory prison. Production designer Arnaud Baudry describes the scene: “In Episode 8, Mel is kept in a mind-prison but isn’t physically restrained.”
